Hello Everyone,

Council Meeting, Monday, July 23/12, 7:30 pm with selected agenda items & correspondence since July 9/12. City web site will provide the complete details.
A) Delegations:
President Nate Andrews of the Chamber of Commerce gave a presentation regarding the proposed extended Sunday shopping hours. Indicated the majority of their Membership approves of the 9 am to 6 pm day.
Erin Brown, Bid Director provided details for Brandon’s bid for the 2017 Canada Summer Games. Bid Committee to provide the 2017 Bid Proposal Package & City resolution on or before July 31/12. Under General Business, Council unanimously agreed to submit the proposal. On September 9-11/12, there will be a site visit by the Canada Games Bid Evaluation Committee. B) Committee Reports:
Grants Review Committee will be accepting the 2013 applications until September 30/12. Details on the City web site.
Information received for the Brandon Municipal Heritage & Brandon Museum & Archives. Fundraising event in September/12. Museum is wanting to retain the BJ Hales Collection. Discussions taking place with the Brandon School Division.
C) Enquiries:
Evacuees Update-Brandon has accepted over 450 residents from Garden Hill/Island Lake First Nation.
City Manager gave an explanation regarding the 2010/11 Financial Statements being submitted for Gas Tax Revenue.
D) Announcements:
Grand Opening for the Hanbury Hill & Hike will be taking place on Sunday, July 29/12 at 11:30 am. There will be a sanctioned Manitoba Cycling Association Cup Race immediately following.
E) General Business:
E. F. Moon Construction were awarded the tender to carry out the Third Street Dam upgrade. Cost being $1,712,174.00, exclusive of GST.
Horizon Builders tender to carry out Phase 111 component of the Water Reclamation Facility Upgrade was approved at a cost of $4,153,810.00, excluding GST was accepted.
F) Did You Know:
Grand Opening for the new Brandon Police Service, 10th. street & Victoria Avenue took place this past Friday. Congratulations to everyone in seeing this project completed. This was one of my personal priorities when being elected in 2002/2006 & 2010. You never say never.
Province of Manitoba has renewed its funding commitment for Renaissance Brandon. $25K has been approved in principal.
City of Brandon’s Environmental Strategic Plan is being reviewed & updated. Major topics being Air, Land, Water & Energy.
Music in the Parks takes place at Princess Park. Full schedule at www.brandon.ca
