The WSO in Brandon, with guest pianist Kyung Kim
Programme:
Ligeti - Concert Românesc (Romanian Concerto)
Prokofiev - Piano Concerto No. 3
Dvorák - Symphony No. 7

To usher in the second half of the season, the WSO and maestro Alexander Mickelthwate perform Ligeti's folk-music infused "Concert Românesc". This 1951 piece, composed in Romania, caused a great stir in its day.

The concert continues with Korean-born pianist Kyung Kim joining the Orchestra. A professor at Brandon University who has performed to much acclaim in Asia, North America and Europe, she presents her interpretation of Prokofiev's beloved "Piano Concerto No. 3", a work the composer-pianist created to showcase his own talents.

The concert closes with Dvorák's "Symphony No. 7", a monumental work in which the composer displayed his Czech nationalism, yet it was immediately embraced by his first audience in London. It remains an audience favourite.

Tickets are available at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium Box Office, online at wmca.ca, or by calling 204-728-9510.
