damn

It sounds as though somebody might have fallen in. There is a Zodiac boat with two drivers on the river right now and they are poking around with a pole.

Well considering..

I was here from the time it happened and they didn't "load up empty" they moved down the river.
Often times they won't find a body in a river for quite sometime.

But this matter is closed for me and my kids.

Have a good day all.

mental illness

if it was someone with a mental illness, they may not even know why they did it.

My thoughts are also with the family.

brandon police media release

POSSIBLE DROWNING
On April 21st, 2012 at 5:08 p.m. a report was received of a male entering the water at the 3rd Street dam near Dinsdale Park and being swept downstream. The investigation revealed that a male person described as an older Caucasian of average height, heavier set, with light hair, wearing a navy sweater, light colored jeans and sneakers had walked out to the dam. He then went out on to the cement ledge, sat down and pushed himself forward in to the water. Witnesses indicate that he appeared to be trying to swim and floated towards the middle of the river before going under the water’s surface. At this point they lost sight of him. The Police Service and Brandon Fire Department Water Rescue were contacted and attended. They searched until sunset but were unable to locate the subject. Search efforts will resume later today.

the Assiniboine and the Souris River

scare the hell out of me...we used to float down the Bow River in Calgary all the time...swimming while the river washed you down stream, but you could always see the bottom and even in the deeper areas you could always see where you were going and you could always stand on the rocky bottom....that muddy opaque river with it's muddy bottom, I wouldn't even canoe down that thing...just not knowing what's under you...I feel for that poor fellow, but it really makes you realize how important it is to let people know how dangerous that river can be...

Update

An update released by Brandon Police this morning:

------------

River Search Update

Efforts to locate a male subject, who may have entered the Assiniboine River and drowned on Saturday, April 21st, continued again yesterday. Searches of the river downstream from the 3rd Street dam were conducted by Brandon Fire and Emergency Services in both the morning and afternoon, with negative results. This incident is possibly associated to a 52 year old Brandon man, who was reported missing that same day, but this has yet to be confirmed.
