make yourself

a budget. decide what you need and don't need and figure out where you can save money. perhaps a weekly dinner out can become once a month, if you have cable do you really need it right now? do you have both a land line and a cell phone? you can probably just survive with the cell phone. look for a part time job. if you drive a lot try walking or biking more. i've always found sitting down and working out my budget really helps. lets me know how much money i have after bills and whether or not i have to short a few bills this month and make up on them in the next. i recall from a previous thread that i think you said you were in your 20's, don't worry we've all been there. many a time we've all lived off mr. noodle and craft dinner when our food budget's been $20 for the payday lol.

.

The first step to financial health is to keep track of every dime you spend, and cut anything that's unnecessary like cigs or Tim's. Be brutal!

You...

could get a job as well if you don`t currently have one or get a second job if you currently have one.

And taking up any extra work that will provide more money in your bank account.

Hard work shouldn't be a dirty word. Lol.

School fees.....there are usually a few options. Can you get a bank loan if not a student loan? What about any RRSP contributions? You can withdraw under the Life Long Learning Plan. Laid off? You may be able to be sponsored for an in demand profession.

be creative

When i went to university, i traded board for babysitting. I lived with a single mom who worked nights. So in exchange for a room, i took care of her daughter at nights.
I also shared text books with two classmates. Yeah, i know it sounds lame. But reality check, you don't study eight courses on the same night, and it also made great study groups.
Ditch the credit cards. I know it sounds counter productive, but it's not. Yes, it is possible to live on less than $50/month in groceries. Case of chicken legs w/ back attatched, rice, brocolli, cauliflour, carrots, onions and some padta sauce. Makes a heck of a stirfry for dinner, with leftovers for lunch.
get a job for after class or see if you can get a job on campus to pay for tuition. Or check with actionplan.gc.ca or the provincal website to see if your field is eligable for grants.

needs vs. wants

When my auntie was getting out of debt she lived...I mean LIVED by this..."DO I NEED THIS, OR DO I WANT THIS" So every time she went shopping it came down to that sentence!! Even when shopping for food...did she need this snack or no??

In all truth...I have yet to start this myself But it is something to think about!!

Basic buys

I agree with Jason T. and AndreaD. Don't buy anything extra. Buy foods that are less processed, you get more bang for your buck.

..

Talk to a counsellor at school, they can definetly help.

Also look at your wants vs. needs. You NEED to eat, you dont NEED to go to Houstons. You NEED hydro, you dont NEED tim hortons/cigs/vacations/expensive clothes etc....
