New Police Station Bids
11/13/2009 at 5:23 PM
I'm all for a new police station in Brandon as I had the opportunity for a tour of their current facility and anyone can see it is no longer adequate. But I do have a problem with the proposed $13 Million price tag, not because it is to much to spend, but because I feel it is to much to spend on renovating a building. I find it completely ridiculous that the fire hall, which is brand new, is budgeted for $11 million but to refurbish an old building is more money. And I can't help but ask, what are the maintenance costs going to be only a few years down the road compared to building new? Is it really worth it to spend this kind of money on a building that was left in favor of a new one by Safeway? And I know its a little late now, but did the city look at the model Manitoba Hydro created when they built their new office in Winnipeg? Hydro recycled about 95% of all the buildings they demolished, cut thier costs of demo in half, and that stage was completed 6 months ahead of schedule compared to demo.
I don't expect this will change anything, and was really just interested in some other views as I find you get a clearer picture with other's input.
