| | | You say you are broke | | |
Do you still manage to squeeze in your daily fix or two of Timmie's? 'Yeah', you reply. 'It's cheap. I need my morning fix.'
But is it really? How many who are reading this go to Tim Horton's once, twice even three times?
Have you ever stopped I mean REALLY STOPPED to add up the cost for your love of Timmie's? 'Yeah. But it's only $1.75! I don't buy anything else', you protest.
Let's add up your daily cost of Timmie's. $1.75 x 3 (you drink coffee with each break). You are spending $5.75 plus tax each day.
Wait! You smoke too? Add in another $15 to your daily spending. There. $20.75 spent. ($5.75 + $15.00)
'I smoke a pack a day but I really don't inhale so you can't it as smoking!'
Hmmm. You say you smoke a pack each day? How do you afford it? I mean coffee is coffee but adding in 26 ciggies daily to the mix THAT'S an addiction!
For the entire month on smokes you spent: $15/day (single pack of smokes, 30 days in the month) = $450.00
Let's add in Timmie's now: $5.25 (three double double each day ($1.75 each), 30 days in the month) = $157.50. Tax not included.
Total for both: $450.00 + $157.50 = $607.50.
Now you ARE broke. Still wanna go for a Timmie?

hubby and I often wonder how people do it - we don't smoke, rarely go out for dinner (even fast food), he buys a case of beer about once a month in the summer months. He buys no more than three cups of coffee out a week, and for me I buy for arguments sake 1 cup out a week (most often I don't buy any).
We find all of our money goes to utilities, gas, medical insurance and basic necessities.
I would LOVE to be able to cut something like coffee purchases and have all that extra money.
Maybe then I could take my family on these vacations I hear so many people going on - own a nicer car, go to a movie once in a while......

| | | I don't | | |
understand how anyone can waste their money on stuff like that. I ALWAYS pay all my bills first (or make sure the money is left in my account) and buy all the stuff I need for the month. Then if I have anything left I can get something I want. I have never paid a bill late. I don't think I ever could. |

Unlike those that may sneak in a beer or glass of wine a day, i do not drink, i have no other bad habits, no credit card debt. How do we it you ask? It's called living within our means, no bank loans and no credit cards. We do not try and "keep up to the Jones's" with all kinds of toys and electronics. Living within our means allows us to induldge in things like timmies. |

Tim hortons is disgusting. It's called buying a $5 can of folgers coffee, and making it and taking it in a thermos. Better coffee and better for our enviroment. I know I don't enjoy seeing those tim's cups all over the street. |

find their coffee good either. It's an aquired taste I guess. Now the iced capps are a different story. But those are a once in awhile treat. |

kinda the point of discussion boards...
people talk, often repeat themselves, sometimes there's an "ah ha" moment, but mostly repetition.
Oh well, that's life! |

| | | Vices | | |
A persons vices are expensive. Weather it is smoking, drinking, gambling or dinning out. the experts say the first thing a person should get rid of, or cut back on their vices.
Many couples think nothing of spending $100.00 or more eating out per week. That adds up to $5,200 a year. That would go along way towards something more lasting, like a house.
If the same couple smokes a carton of cigarettes a week, drank $50.00 of alcohol week each, gambles $50.00 a week each, plus eat out to the tune of $100.00 that would add up to about $26,000 a year.
If they could cut that in half they would save $13,000 a year. That is over $1,000.00 a month. That would make a very nice house payment, don't you think? |

If you eat at Tim Horton's 3 times a day??
Do you know how many calories that there are in each muffin / donut / double double coffee / ice cap?

| | | Til Debt Do Us Part | | |
I love that show..it completely changed the way I spend and save money. It actually works to live on cash alone. Pay the bills up front. When you lay it all out, it's amazing how much I frittered away. Pick up a DVD, cup of coffee, slurpee. It adds up, but if I don't have the cash in my wallet..I don't buy it. And I don't feel bad about it either, since I have piece of mind that my bills are paid and I'm not living on credit card debt. |

Presidents choice great canadian Coffee ( its in a can)bought it at the superstore. 3.99 I think. Very good ad some real cream ...well half and half and it takes very close. I my self drink it black, but hubby ,who is Timmies Freak, uses cream. So if it gets past his discerning pallette, its a winner |

sorry my post was a little off topic...i just get annoyed with people who brag about how they have no credit card debt or bank loans...

in all you're right... Tim's is a waste of money and one I admit to partaking in! I have cut down from going there 3(ish) times per day to once, and some days not at all. I actually feel better since I stopped drinking it so often....
@ Nissan fan... You found that one too! It even smells like Timmies when you open the can and at a fraction of the cost! As a fellow Tim's freak I agree wholeheartedly that it is good stuff! Edited by Brandy, 2010-06-15 19:40:32 |

we brew at home. We like the Coop organic free trade coffee or the Compliments coffee. Both are good at a good price. But I can't make danishes at home like tims so we go twice a week for a treat. It's really funny with shows like Til Debt do us Part and other shows like that how people are just not living in their means. That's what screws up the economy, lives, and families. Keep it honest, keep it simple and next thing you know you'll be really happy and able to sleep at night. Not that I wouldn't like to indulge in hair highlights, a second car, eating out, and vacations but I'd rather be able to sleep at night. I think when people talking about debt I'm sure they mean stupid debt. I don't consider my mortgage to be a stupid debt but I would consider lines of credit, consolidation loans, credit card debts etc to be not an ideal way to live. |

If you've spent any time behind a cash register in the last couple years I'm guessing you'll agree with me. It's very sad that people are so broke that their debit card is declined on a $6 purchase. It's happening constantly.., people guessing / hoping they have enough to cover a small purchase. Or the people trying to charge $5 on their credit card.
If times are tough, I don't think people should be in line at the convenience store. Raid the change jar & buy groceries instead.
But I do sympathize with them... A tough spot to be in. I just can't ever imagine spending my last $10 on smokes & a Timmies. |

but my Dad used to smoke 3 packs a day!!! Yes, 75 cigarettes a day! This was back in the day when you could smoke everywhere. My Mom also smoked a pack and a half a day until she had me. I am allergic, actually allergic! I worked it out that if they smoked like that today, they would be spending in excess of $24,000 on cigarettes alone. CRAZY!!! Thank God they quit 31 years ago! They would DEFINITELY be broke if they still smoked. Edited by Rachelle K, 2010-06-15 22:20:08 |

I love tim Hortons, but i've realized I can't afford it so I go once a month as a treat to myself. I couldn't COMPLETELY cut it out, so I reward my self with it. A $2 reward for coffee isn't really that bad once or twice a month... That's under $48 a year... I can live with that! |
