FYI

Effective May 1, 2007, it is illegal to possess crayfish (this i:ncludes possession for consumption). Manitoba no longer issues experimental commercial fishing licenses for the harvest of crayfish.

I always

When I was younger my cousins and I would swim in the Swan River, and we would catch crayfish by the dozen! We would feed them to my grandparents neighbours Oscar fish...they would rip the crayfish apart and we'd all watch with eyes wide and mouths hanging open.....LOL! Or we would build little ponds to keep them in along with the minnows we would also catch with strainers! Many, many happy hours spent by the river up north when I was younger...Didn't know there was a market for them, I don't know if I'd ever eat one tho, they are pretty small so indent imagine there would be much meat in them.....

Crayfish

Found an article that basically gives the reason for the ban on possessing crayfish in Manitoba. Didn't do any other searches on the topic, but going to see if there is more up to date information.

Just looking to add to my aquarium collection! Won’t be eating the little guys! I have quite a few just looking to diversify or find a local Breeder to buy from.

Not legal for any purpose - that includes aquariums

To avoid transferring them to another lake, Manitobans are asked to never collect crayfish for any purpose, including consumption, bait or aquarium use, and to remove mud, vegetation and bilge from boats before transporting them.

Since May 1, it has been illegal to possess any type of crayfish in Manitoba.

still for sale

I understand you don’t like them being sold in Manitoba however I am not questioning the law simply asking if anyone knows traders or breeders as not ALL types are illegal. Pet stores frequently sell the electric blue cray fish I am looking for more exotic kinds is all. Not illegal evasive species (of which only 2 are banned in Manitoba)

I know this is off topic to your search for legal but would you happen to have a resource of choice regarding the different types of crayfish, more specifically the ones you might keep in an aquarium. I always thought the little blue guys looked cool but didn't realize that there might be even more types that people might collect. I'll use a search engine too but thought I'd ask you as well in case you have a favourite site for information.
