How about this....I have flown to Newfoundland from Winnipeg almost every year for the last 9 years, for FREE! Well, pay taxes and fees, but still an awesome deal. The girlfriend and I went on a 7 day cruise in October 2006 cruise and flights were on airmiles, and this November we already have our second 7 days cruise and flights already booked and almost 8,000 airmiles built up again already!

To me it's almost an investment in a vacation to shop at all the airmiles stores. And we only buy the things we need and use too.

I doubt we could afford vacations like these 2 cruises we have done / doing on cash alone.

MIGHT be doing a trip to Vegas in February on air miles, and likley have enough to fly to Newfoundland in the summer of 2009.

wouldn't say I like to shop, I just tend to shop at the places that offer Air Miles. Safeway is by FAR the best place to collect. We have to get groceries every month anyway. We probably get most of our Air Miles on the cereal deals. Something we happen to eat a lot of anyway, plus, it will never spoil in your panty, so why not stock up til the next Air Miles deal

me too!!!

I love airmiles too. I haven't used mine yet, I am saving for a trip. I wish Sobeys had airmiles here like they do in the maritimes, for now, I just get them at safeway. Also got some last week at Visions...bonus!!

Aeroplan

I have both Airmiles and Aeroplan. If you have the right credit card and enough discipline to charge-and-pay-off, you can really rack up the Aeroplan points without really changing what you buy or how much you spend..

A little irish blessing..

You can get Airmiles...

Liquor Mart - Buy beer, wine, the hard stuff (bonus on Scotch and Rum all the time).

Shell - 1/$20 (Get the Air Miles Shell BMO Mastercard and you get an equivalent of 9 cents off per litre on fuel purchases as well).

Safeway - Love the coupons.

Boston Pizza - Makes up for the lacklustre service.

Visions - New to the program.

Bank of Montreal - You get 1 mile for every $20 spent on your debit card, anywhere you use it.

Sport Chek - Once again, makes up for the service.

These are the places I like to use my card. I have an American Express Costco and a BMO Shell card, and use them to pay utilities, food, clothing, gas, etc. Every month I pay off the bill. I average about 100 Air Miles per month on the cards alone, as well as my base Air Miles for showing my collector's card. On top of that I am rewarded with 2% cash back at Costco and 2% cash back at Shell, as well as double Air Miles all the time at Shell. Last year alone I received about 3000 miles.

On a sad note, Westjet is backing out of the program next year, so book those Westjet vacations now!

Don't

forget Rona and a couple of Credit Cards also give Air miles (Mastercard and American Express I think)

So far we have flew to Victoria and got a Canon Digital Camera.
