| | | Game day thread: Regina @ Wheat Kings, 6 PM | | |
Regina Pats (10-11-2-0, Tie-8th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Jordan Eberle (16+19=35), Jordan Weal (11+17=28), Brett Leffler (9+13=22), Matt Strueby (12+5=17)
Top scoring defenceman: Colten Teubert (5+10=15)
Probable starting goaltender: Going to guess that backup Dawson Guhle (4-4-1, 0.872 save pct, 4.09 GAA) gets the call with starter Damien Ketlo having played each of Friday and Saturday.
Manitobans: Kyle Mulder (Winnipeg), Jason Gardiner (Winnipeg), Alex Pym (Winnipeg)
Brandon Wheat Kings (12-9-0-2, 5th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Brayden Schenn (9+20=29), Matt Calvert (13+14=27), Jay Fehr (10+17=27), Aaron Lewadniuk (8+16=24)
Top scoring defenceman: Colby Robak (4+14=18)
Probable starting goaltender: Take your pick of Jacob De Serres (2-5-0-1, 0.876 save pct, 3.59 GAA) or Andrew Hayes (10-6-0-1, 0.905 save pct, 2.70 GAA). With five games over the next seven days, both goalies will see their share of starts. If forced to guess, I'd say De Serres tonight.
The Regina Pats make their first visit of the season to Brandon. The Wheat Kings won the only head-to-head matchup so far, a 3-0 shutout almost two months ago (Sept 19) in Regina.
The Wheat Kings are coming off one of their better efforts of the season so far, a hard fought 4-3 loss to Saskatoon on Friday. Tonight will be a big test to see if they're able to sustain that level of play against an opponent that's lower in the standings. Pats are still not to be taken lightly, as they're only four points behind the Wheat Kings in the Eastern Conferene standings.
Lineups and scratches approx a half hour before game time. Would be great as always to read folks' pre and post-game thoughts. |

Regina lost a home and home vs moose jaw, 3rd game this weekend...Brandon better have a very good start and don't let them hang around...if Brandon brings anything at all they will be fine...go boys. I'll predict 6 -3 Brandon. |

| | | Wheaties will win | | |
with the same effort they've put out over the last couple of games. They've been outshooting opposition by a wide margin and keeping shots against fairly low. Think our goaltending needs to be more consistent and outplay the opposition goalie instead of the other way around. |

| | | Chance to watch 2 future BWK's???? | | |
If Regina continues to be the bottom of the division will wqe see Eberle and Teubert in WK uniforms after the WJ's?? I personally think that KM will not be able to part with a high asking price from Parker and Co. but it would be 2 great additions especisally Teubert for some back end toughness and smart D-playing. Anybody else see this happening? |

has picked up their play considerably as of late. They probably wont be selling at the deadline as the Parkers have already said they will be contenders this year. |

Will be interesting for sure...
Both Eberle and Teubert should be in the lineup tonight, but we'll get a sense tonight for whether or not they have the depth to play 1 month without them at World Jr time. |

| | | 8-7 OT WK Final!!! | | |
Wow, I don't know what to think about that game. I can't ever remember watching us blow a 4 goal lead late in the 3rd period. I'm not sure if I'm sick from watching that effort on defence or elated that we somehow managed to pull it together for the OT winner. Probably a little bit of both.
Other observations.
1. Matt Calvert's shorthanded goal to put us up 7-3 was brilliant.
2. Jordan Eberle for the Pats is absolutely unstoppable. If there was any way possible that we could swing for a trade for him without somehow giving up the farm then please do. C'mon McCrimmon, weave some of that trade magic. |

| | | tonight's game | | |
I felt much more positive after Friday night's game that they lost. Tonight's game that they won...not so much. We need a much better effort against Calgary on Friday...we have proven in the past that we can do it...just need to dig down deep to find out what can be done to make this team live up to the potential that it certainly has... |

Wow. You could come to all 36 games in a season and not see one as wild as that one. Definitely not the same consistant energy we saw on Friday, but a win's a win.
No idea what other players on other teams managed to rack up, but don't be surprised if we saw the WHL player of the week in this game.
For the Wheat Kings, Calvert 5 goals, 6 assists in 3 games this week. Schenn had 2 goals, 8 assists in the 3 games. Robak as a defenceman had 4 goals and 3 assists as well.
With his 5 points tonight, Regina's Jordan Eberle had 3 goals, 7 assists in 4 games this week himself.
Also worth noting that Schenn and Calvert are now all the way up to 6th and 7th in league scoring respectively.
I've added a few pics to the right-hand column.

KM wouldn't do that deal. Giving away 3 regular roster players & 4 prospects for 4 rental players is absurd.
Come the trade deadline, Eberle (who we don't need) could be had for DePape, a pick & a prospect. |

Think it'd take quite a bit more to get a package that big. If the two biggest pieces Regina is getting will be gone next year anyway (Fehr, Lewadniuk) and the rest are players that are anything but a sure bet, they'd probably rather keep Eberle and Teubert. I don't mean that as any slight to Walker or Sinatynski or Melnychuk who all have potential to be good players in this league.
I'm guessing it's a short conversation with Regina unless it involves a player or two that they feel they'll have a good chance of being able to build around for the next couple of years... especially if they're giving up both Eberle and Teubert. All trade talk aside, don't forget we're adding an already very good player in a few weeks named Mark Stone. |

12 since he joined Seattle, that would put him right behind Toni Rajala on the WK's team scoring.

I haven't seen a goaltending meltdown like that since the 80's. And Brodie Melnychuck showed again tonight why he has to go. Leffler and Strueby bullied their way past him all night and owned the front of our net. It was embarrassing to watch a 6'4" defenceman get pushed aside like a curtain. But as long as Kelly thinks all is well, hey, what the heck.....
He benched the third line in the second after they scored in the first. Does Kelly even think before he does things? He better start thinking a little harder.
And not even 4000 in the building tonight Mr. McCrimmon......you shouldn't even wonder why. |

| | | Here's where Kelly missed out | | |
#1 He should have got a good coach in the off season when there were some available.
#2 Number 1 goalie.
#3 Better Defense
Right now the price will be high for any trades because other teams know we need to gear up for Mem-Cup....in the off season it would have been way easier to pull off a deal.
Now he'll just sit back and go with what we've got because he doesn't want to give up the future. Edited by TeamCanada, 2009-11-15 22:13:34 |

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if 3889 is one of the better Sunday crowds in a long time, except for perhaps a Remembrance Day or holiday game. I feel for the folks at Smitty's... between Wednesday and today, that's a lot of bacon! |
