Brandon Double-Coupon Wednesdays!

At the request of another savvy eBrandonite (BusyMom) I will share with you what I know about the infamous double-coupon days in Brandon.

Every Wednesday is double-coupon day at Co-op Marketplace and both Sobeys locations. If you have a coupon of $2.00 or under, they will double the value as long as it does not exceed the price of the item. A coupon of $2.50 will only have the face value of that coupon as it exceeds the $2.00 maximum.

For example: A $2.00 coupon is worth $4.00 and a $.50 couons is worth $1.00

You can use up to 3 of the same coupon to discount 3 of the same product. Please be very organized when you get to the register because it can cause havoc if you are not.

To get the best value I always try to use my coupons on sale items in their weekly flyers.

I already have my plan of attack for tomorrow.. hope to see a few of you out shopping.

Coupons

Save.ca is a great site, and I've found a few other strategies to maximize the inventory in my coupon binder.

Coupon Hunting: I make a point of surfing each isle every time I hit a store. Its not often that I buy the product from the store I get the coupon, if you save the coupons to wait for a better promotion you can maximize your savings.

Coupon Collecting: The Shop and Save and Smart Source coupons that come with with the weekly flyers are a great source for coupons.

Coupon Trading: eBrandon has a coupon train, you can get involved by PM'ing Marlene where Brandonites swap coupons of equal value and share coupons that would otherwise go unused.

Another very effective way of coupon trading is through smartcanucks.ca. Once you register you can trade coupons with savvy Canadians right across this great country. Once you build a reputation as a trustworthy trader you might want to get involved in Nation-wide coupon trains.

Friends, family and neighbors: A great way to get multiple coupons is by asking people around you to keep an eye out for you. A lot of people can't be bothered by clipping, organizing and showing up to the till with a fist full of manufacturer's money.. but I certainly can.

I'll write another post about effective ways to use coupons by coupon stacking..

Hope this was helpful.

~ NEWSFLASH ~ Sobeys South is backing out!

I was just finished a shop at Sobeys and they have posters up indicating that they are discontinuing Double-Coupon Days effective December 30, 2009.

I'm not sure if both Sobeys are pulling out of this or just the South.. anyone know?

Sobeys double coupon days

Yes, it's true all corporate Sobeys stores across the Western provinces from British Columbia to Manitoba (including Brandon South and Westend) are no longer having double coupon days as of December 30th 2009 the manager said to expect more aggressive advertising with club Sobeys points instead to make up for the discontinuation of double coupon days.

I know if they do the club Sobeys birthday thing again, I saved $25.00 on groceries in 2 months! Which I've never saved that much in coupons ever I hope they keep doing stuff like this!

club sobeys

Get a club sobey master caard and you can realy rack up the points I've had mine for only a year and I racked up at least $175 worth of savings, far more productive then double coupons!

Coupons vs. Double Coupon Days

I paid $124.00 in cash and saved $97 using coupons this Wednesday at Sobeys while earning 910 Club Sobeys Points.

Its a pretty broad brush to say its more productive than double couponing.

You must have access to some pretty sweet coupons to pull that off. I shop strictly on price so its generic or dollar days for me.

I have access to the same coupons as everyone else has. I am quite strategic on where and when to buy... Its called a 'market' for a reason.

#1 rule: Master price. Get familiar with the sale price of an item and only use your coupon when it is already discounted on sale.

#2 rule: Maximize. Double your coupon whenever possible. Stack coupons.

#3 rule: Restraint. Do not coupon hoard.. it only induces unnecessary purchasing. Just buy what you normally buy (brands/size/quantity). Never 'stockpile' more than 3 of one item.

#4 rule: Organize & Strategize. Take an hour a week to save $100 bucks or more. Pay on average, at a minimum of 2/3 of the 'on sale' price.

My last shop, everything I bought was 'on sale' and the lowest price across competitors.

CO-OP: Paid $67.00 cash - $77.00 in coupons.

SOBEYS: Paid $124.00 cash - $97.00 in coupons.

TOTAL: Spent $191.00 cash - $174 in coupons. Paid 48% 'on sale' price.
