Dollarama

what do you think about this new store? I think it is a neat place it is somewhere that people will be able to go and get things for reasonable price. There is even some brand names in there. My daughter just loves it. Great place to get stocking stuffers too.

Comparison

How does it compare to The Buck or Two,...or The 99 Cents store Tammy? Are they similar, or does it have more, different types of goodies?

Dollarama

Just what we needed, another dollar store. Please. Doesn't Brandon have enough of these type stores? How is Dollarama any different from the 99 cent store, or Buck or Two in the mall?

well........

each too there own but personally I think it is ok. Buck at two is not what it used too be and 99cent store has not bad selection. The dollarama has everything someone might need that can't afford in Walmart or other places that prices are higher. We used to go to Portage before for it so I was happy when it opened and sure that there might be others think the same.

is really only a dollar as opposed to the Buck or Two store and it doesn't look like a tornado just went thru it like the 99 cent store. And with Manitoba having one of the, if not the least amount of disposable income in the country it will do very well here. Personally I love the store.

Love our dollar stores

Manitoba loves their dollar stores! My wife has shopped at Dollarama, she thought it was well organized and would probably shop their again. I can't see myself spending any time there. I hardly make it shopping when I actually need something.

Dollar Store

is great. I was there the first Saturday and you couldn't move in the place so I went back through the week. I will be back for stocking stuffers and many other items in the future. Love it!!

I like it

The thing I like best is going there with my son, and telling him he can have whatever he wants - that he can even have 2 or 3 things. He gets really excited and thrilled that he can shoose whatever he wants. And for a kid - that is a great treat!

I like it better than the 99 cent store - because it is brigher and cleaner looking. The 99 cent store does have a good selection as well - the Dollarama just has a different selection.

Well

you do make a good point Darryl. People don't stop there for quality, they shop there for quantity.

I like dollarama because they don't take debit (or at least the ones I've been to don't) so you're not waiting in line forever.

Yes Darryl but...

then you can new 'junk'. Thats the point, isn't it??
But seriously, one of the things I found there was glass drinking glasses (nice big ones) sold separately so you could buy 4 or 6 or 7 if you wanted too. 6 nice big glasses--$6!! what's not to like??

Darryl..

With a name like Dollarama - people don't do in expecting top notch quality. Really - what is the diff. if you spend 1$ on a gift bag there or $4 for a gift bag elsewhere??

Obviously, you are not going there to purchase high ticket items....

And if you do buy their scrub brushes / cleaning supplies etc, whether you buy them at Dollarama / SuperStore / Canadian Tire, you throw them out after a month anyway...

It's my home away from home. When you are a student with little $$, Dollarama offers me a neat place to find interseting things! I LOVE IT!

that place by superstore

I see people coming out with picture frames and paint etc..... is that stuff going to last.

My point is people can search for "deals or bargins" but is it really in the end.

Granted drinking glasses for a buck each is ok because if you break one who cares. But to go and find clothes or household items that you need on a day to day basis I don't know if you are really getting any value in the end.

It seems to what I've been reading you haven't spent much time looking around in these stores. Trust me I think you will be surprised on what is available and how good the quality is on many of there items. Sure some of the products are low end but most are a real bargain for only a dollar.

Dollarama

a friend of mine took me to the one in Portage one day heading home from Winnipeg... I loved it and it got me hooked. It's soo cheap with good quality! And for a student that is a good thing!

Dollarama

Well if this current stock indication is anything to go by, won't be my first choice for a dollar store. Over half the store is emptry with no stock on the shelves!

Being a franchise store they get items when they get stuff shipped to them from the franchise distribution centre. An from what i have seen just last night a very poor job of keeping a new store stocked. No new stock has arrived to fill empty shelves since it opened!

Being a new store they have to expect a rush, but almost 2 weeks now and the stock sold has not been replaced.

MS99Cent store by superstore, has better selection and the store is never empty as new stock arrives daily!

Give Dollarama a try!

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of dollar stores for various reasons. When I heard we were getting another dollar store in Brandon, I wondered why?!

I never would have went to Dollarama on my own, but I went shopping with someone that wanted to go last weekend. So...I went and I'm actually glad that I did! Dollarama to me is different than the usual dollar stores that we are used to having.

I bought a few items that I usually pay a lot more than a dollar for at other places in Brandon. I didn't buy a knock-off brand or products of a lesser quality either. The items I purchased were the very same items that I normally buy anyways.

I will definatley be going back! It is true that some of the shelves are bare at the moment, but they did just open and can't keep up with all the typical Brandon hype that occurs when something new opens up. I'm sure that it will get better soon.

But,

where is dollarama?

Always worth checking it out on my own, especially with the vastly differing opinions expressed in here.

I know that in many cases you are paying more in the dollar store than if you went to a "major centre" does that make those particular items better quality at the dollar stores than the normal stores?? The memo pads that I bought over the years( pocket size) cost double at .99 cent store.I think it Same supplier and all. No one price shops for items under abuck. I just noticed and have since been watching other items that are no real deal. Yes some stuff is "junk" but it serves a need. I needed some black shoe polish for a Halloween costume---6.oo plus everywhere else. 1.14 with taxes complete kit --threw the towel/brush into the tool box used a small amount of polish. IF you have the time to wait in line these stores answer a need.

I can afford to shop at Walmart and probably 7 days week if I wanted too. I am just saying that there is lots of items in the Dollarama that are BRAND names for only a $1.00 so what the heck might as well buy there. Have you checked the place out yet Noeller? I know there are lots on students and others out there that are not as fortunate as myself to have a choice where too shop because of the tight budgets they are on. Also for some parents as mentioned above it is great if you have children cause they can have variety of choices with their allowances.

Haven't...

...been into Brandon since this summer. I'm due to make a trip in sometime. I have been a student, and WalMart is pretty much the bottom of the barrel for the Price vs. Quality battle. Still, Dollar-type stores have their place in their society...good on Dollarama for providing a service which is proving popular in the Wheat City...

Dollarama

Checked it out this afternoon.
I actually thought it was a neat concept. Some of the stuff you get for a dollar makes you wonder if they actually make any money on it..

Went there last night

Some of the shelves are bare, which is a sad but there is plenty else in the store to make up for it. My husband and I went there to fill our Operation Christmas child boxes (a worthy cause to support in my opinion) and I must say we had a much easier time doing it there than we've had in the past with the dollar store due to the larger selection of stuff.

And I got name brand batteries for a dollar. That excited me.

I love dollar stores

Hey, plz don't put down dollar stores. Some people really have to get by on these places, and as others have said, they do have some good quality stuff in them. Grocery section is well spent money. Kitchen items last very long too. The craft section at Dollarama is awsome, scrapbooking, woodwork, paints, brushes, etc.
D, I actually do have frames, pictures, and stuff from 99 cent store and they have held up very well I might add.
These places are great for birthday presents for kids, holiday cards, and I just bought for 8 kids xmas gift bags full of items for under 40 bucks. You can't do that at Wal-Mart!

I believe right now Dollarama only has empty shelves because they couldn't keep up with the opening. Brandon does buy out stores when they open, and xmas is coming. I'm sure shelves will be stocked proper after everything calms down. Only one thing that I'm not fond of, they are pulling Tim Hortons trick...no debit. I need to use my plastic! lol

Dollarama

I don't even go there anymore no point at all. May as well call it Bareorama, no new stock has arrived since the store was opened 3 weeks ago, definately not going back anytime soon...

50% of the store is bare shelves not my idea of a dollar store. I am sticking to MS99 Cent store always fully stocked, and actually has more variety than dollarama.

Dollarama may look like it has more but when you have 5 -10 pegs wide of the same item really not as much variety...

Keep bare shelves customers will not be back..
