The Keg

I am looking to the eBrandon community who are familiar with The Keg menu and policies. We are planning on going out to The Keg with another couple and I'm not sure what I'm going to order. I am trying to eat healthy and am staying away from a lot of red meat, carbs, sauces, sodium, etc. I have previewed the menu and nutritional info on their website and are still unsure what I'm going to order. Do you know if The Keg will cater to any special requests or substitutions. I was thinking of just aen entree sized house salad with a grilled chicken breast or one of the chicken dinners without the potato, rice or fries, but substituting a veg of some sort. Does anyone know what veggies they offer? Any other suggestions or insights would be appreciated

Go with a spinach salad (unless you don't like spinach) and request side dressing so you can determine how much is enough for you.

Then if you order the grilled chicken breast a good side with it would be asparagus. Ask for the butter on the side, they tend to put a lot on the asparagus.

If you don't like asparagus, there is rice, mushrooms, sweet potato fries, or the "classic veg".

Basically don't be afraid to make substitutions, it usually doesn't cost any extra and your server should be able to help you out with any questions.

No matter which restaurant we are at, we always order our meal the way we want it and we have never had a problem. We are paying for the meal. Enjoy your night out!

It's the Keg

Let go for one night and forget about the diet....If you can't do that then here are couple of suggestions: 1)If they bring bread prior to the meal do not eat it....2)If they offer cream soups do not eat them ....3) Most appetizers are very fattening and not to mention expensive so do not order them....4)If you order a salad for your meal then you do not want to ruin it by putting any kind of creamy salad dressings on it....just say vinegar please w/pepper and a little dash of salt....and please add a piece of grilled fish or chicken breast on top of it.... please be sure to specify no batter or butter....and oh yeah absolutely no processed meat or cheeses should be in the salad....or croutons and please have the will power not to grab soup crackers and crush them on top of the salad no matter how tempting it is....5)During your meal please do not drink alcoholic beverages except one glass of wine (preferably red but white is fine considering you are not eating creamy salad dressing, appetizers, or any processed foods)....absolutely no beer, daiquiris, or vodka Caesar's (to much sodium in the clamato juice)and definitely no soda pop of any kind....or coffee because it is just bad for you (just my opinion)6)Last but not least please do not order any dessert and believe me at the Keg you will have to muster up every ounce of will power you have not to do this....but I know you can do it because you are dedicated to your diet....so at the end of your meal please order one cup of tea with a cube of sugar no cream or milk....These are just some suggestions for people that are on a strict diet to consider prior eating out in a restaurant....I am sure that most people have heard these suggestions before in some form or fashion but it never hurts to remind or refresh people's memory on such an important subject. Any way I hope this helps you and if not you than some one that has the same concerns as you. Bye for now.

I really...

think the keg was the wrong choice if you are serious about eating healthy.

I actually found a binder at a local place in town that has every resturant in brandon, including local and has them from healthiest to leat healthiest, according to their menu. The keg is quite far down that list.

This is not impossible if JC71 follows the 7 suggestions that I left on this thread....Sure JC71 may be sitting there drooling while everyone else eats bread, creamy soups, mouth watering steak, starches smothered in butter and sour cream, delectable desserts, and binge drinking on ice cold beers or hot apple cider brimming with Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum; However JC71 will have no regrets and a ton of respect for himself/herself in the morning....believe you me.

I've found restaurants to be very accomodating.

I am on a very specialized diet, and I have yet to find a local restaurant that wasn't willing to adjust the meal to my requests. I always start with ordering a meal that I can modify to my needs, then make requests. If they can do it great, if not, I can adjust other aspects.

If you are friendly, and ask nicely, you would be surprised how accomodating restaurants are.

Why ask here????

Here's a thought...

Why not phone the Keg and ask them?

my thoughts...

Stay home and gnaw on a head of lettuce. Rice cakes make a nice appetizer for folks in your predicament.

Wow! Insensitive much?

Many of you are quick to judge! The OP is asking for some help choosing some dinner options....not rude comments and remarks. If you don't have an actual suggestion for them maybe keep your comments to yourself? As the subject of eating/weight loss is almost always a sensitive one.

I have eaten out at the Keg before while on a strict diet and I found them very accommodating. I ordered a large salad with a side of grilled chicken breast (no sauces or marinades) and a side of asparagus, butter on the side. They had no problems doing this for me and it was very satisfying.

Good luck with your evening out, I hope you enjoy yourself!

The op reviewed the menu and nutritional info on the Keg's site and is unsure what to order.

How many times has anyone encountered a situation, at a place such as the Keg, where you couldn't make such simple substitutions/requests?

The only question that HAD to be asked here was what kind of veggies they have. Wait staff at the Keg will NOT reveal that.

1) You can make simple substitutions at the keg.

2) If you ask your server what items can be substituted they will tell you. "

oh...nevermind, I see you were able to pick out the obvious.
