Why

would anyone ask such a stupid question? Who cares. The Corral Centre is not the center of the universe. I find it a pain in the A** to go there.

Not to be open

I'd say it is closed to well past our various flood stages and the water is well receeded.

I care!

I care when the Corral Centre opens!! I work 2 part time jobs, both of which are in the Corral Centre and are shut down! I have no idea when I get to go back to work. Showed up yesterday, as I was told, only to be turned away as it was shutting down. The people who care are the people who are struggling to pay their bills because of lost wages.

OMG! Why all the dumb questions?? Don't people read or listen to the news? This water is here for a LONG time and so is the threat of a breach in the dikes.

the corral centre offers many shopping stores and services that ppl need/want. it provides income for hundreds of ppl who need that income to pay rent and bills and buy groceries. it may not be the centre of ur universe but to others it is essential in theirs.

What goes around...

Why would they make that Walmart a Super Center? Brandon is the obvious choice.

Lol

The only reason why I asked is because my friend works in the corral centre and was on holidays before all this happened and hasn't got ahold of her boss to know when they're expected to go back to work.

Corral Centre

.. is closed until further notice as part of the mandatory precautionary evacuation. It would be a fairly safe bet that that evacuation will hold into the weekend.

Corral Center Closure Will Be In Place Until Brandon Council Deems It To Be Safe

La La La said "Does anybody know when the corral centre will be reopening to the public? "

A mandatory closure is in place via emergency measures due to the increased risks to employees, employers, customers and all Brandonites in this area should there be increased traffic due to shopping. La La La it is being encouraged to avoid this area, and 18th unless absolutely necessary until conditions on the river change as per the City Of Brandons State of Emergency Provisions. The City will notify citizens when it will be reopening. You will know when we all do...and that won't be this weekend La La La.

I have heard of La La Land before..do you know of it La La La..there are Walmarts opened there.

but lets try this again...

i am not positive. i have just heard from friends who live in portage that the walmart there is being turned into a super walmart. i dont know why u would think brandon is the obvious choice...i would have thought wpg was but i dont know. i do believe tho that the portage walmart is the biggest one in mb for square footage.

I can't believe the OP's question!

The river isn't supposed to crest until the 18th or so. Then, it is supposed to stay at this level for atleast 3 days. The Corral Centre won't open up again until the crest has passed and the level of the river starts to go down.
I do feel for those who live paycheque to paycheque and are currently out of work. But I feel more for the people who have homes in the river area that could be flooded by a breach in the dike.
The city made a good move to force the closure of the Corral Centre. Safety for the people has to come first.

A pattern that is infamous...

... on this site: someone asks a simple question, and for whatever reason, people start jumping down their throats.

Why are you all so cranky? Did someone pee in your cornflakes? Nope. Someone spit in your coffee? A nice gooey loogey? If not, then why do you jump down their throat.

"No such thing as a stupid question" we teach our children. By the way I see things unfolding often on ebrandon, I think we should stop teaching that to kids. It just sets them up in the end...

As for when it is open, I have no idea. Probably after all the mess is worked out and nobody is at risk. Basically when people can start going home, I would say that's when they will open again.

Having Walmart withdrawls? Always Portage!

Loss of wages and other $$$

The closures of so many businesses is going to be hard on many people. So are the expenses of the home owners and residents. Sure there are some programs that will help but they never really recoup the losses. The loss for the businesses is large too. Can't controll Mother Nature . We only have control on some of the responses to Mother nature.

A reason more and more people that I know are mentioning this place is getting lame and not bothering with it anymore.

Prescription

I phoned wal=-Mart today to have prescription refilled. A Brandon pharmacist is working out of Dauphin where calls are being forwarded. You can choose to have your prescription transferred to another pharmacy or filled in Dauphin and the pharmacist will deliver it. I'd say that's exceptional service that goes above and beyond in this time of crisis!

To the OP:

It sounds like your child is on a stimulant for ADD/ADHD. We had situations with our child growing up where he was unable to take his medication because of the side-effects. With some patience and good parenting, you CAN live through these periods until you can see your doctor again. If that is not possible, you can always get an assessment from another physician. Unfortunately, some health care providers are taking poor behavior as ADD and giving out these prescriptions like candy, but that's a discussion for another group.

I think what miffs most people is because of the fact the answer is completely obvious.

Let's think:

-Corral Center closed because of high waters and safety concerns.

-Water has not moved much since closure

-People wondering if it will reopen this weekend.

I dont know about you, but it makes no sense for them to reopen it if the water hasn't moved. It's not like they decided to close it down for poops and giggles. Really people, it's just common sense.

Well

if the high water levels are important enough to close down the CC and evacuate all those people, then why is 18th street still open for public use??

Easy answer

Desertnewf said "if the high water levels are important enough to close down the CC and evacuate all those people, then why is 18th street still open for public use?? "

18th is still open because there is not much risk the sandbag levee will give out but it requires constant monitoring and maintenance. The south-bound lane is shut down to facilitate the workers being able to do this easily. The Coral Centre was shut down to keep the traffic on 18th down to a minimum.

Can you imagine the chaos if it was still open and everybody has their MPIC rebate cheques burning holes in their pockets???

AverageJoe will explain more in depth shortly, I am sure...
