pictures of Minot flooding

I'm sure if you live in Western Manitoba, you have seen the pictures being sent around about the flooding in Minot. Am I the only one who questions the authenticity of some of these pictures? These pictures have also been featured on a past discussion on e-brandon and include a photo of houses pressed up against a railway bridge, as well as one that has the YMCA in the background. Did the water really rush into Minot at such a rate that houses were removed from their foundation? I also went as far as "googleing" images of the YMCA in Minot, ND, and the picture that came up there did not match the picture of the flood. I am by no means trying to minimize the damage that happened there, as I too am currently evacuated from my home, but I'm just wondering what others think! I'll try to upload the pictures I'm referring to.

Am I paranoid?

A new conspiracy, brought to you by the people who faked the Sept 11 WTC attacks? Maybe this will be the excuse the Americans use to invade Canada.

Trusted Media

Try going on the local Minot papers and radio stations and looking up their images. A little more reliable. There was some video footage of a large house being twisted and torn from it's foundations, and I believe that was actual footage from a different river flooding in Bismarck. But remember even Canada AM didn't have reliable coverage of the Souris Flood. They used pictures of french street signs and images of several house engulfed in water, in their coverage of Souris. Sorry some of those pictures were from Quebec, not Souris.

my view is.....

I saw some of it as we passed through on the weekend. Devastating!

We stopped for lunch at a very nice place. They handed us bottled water, paper plates and plastic forks and knives. Unbelievable that businesses have to go through that. Our waitress was telling us her mothers house was completely gone. She is 80 years old, what will she do now? No overland flood insurance and who will give an 80 year old woman a mortgage? Not to mention all the possessions she lost.

I truly had never seen anything like it.

Minot state police has denied allegations towards this

I would like to outsource the link to their paper stating their denial of these allegations.

I also like to comment how this rumour.. started on 'ebrandon' (perhaps) and has spread Manitoba wide quickly.

And at that pure 'rumour' and speculation, there is no proof, nobody has been charge with vandalism, yet this rumour continues to grow... on ebrandon.

Is that news adam? when there is no proof of these happenings, no charges laid. PURE SPECULATION. no evidence that people of Minot are doing anything to people of Manitoba.

It's hard not to believe the usgs and Minot newspapers, the pictures in question... wow, is this science or news?

Sorry to put a bug on this subject, but the real truth is really disgusting and dirty on this subject.

Oh and I think I meant to post this under the rumour section of the Minot, bla bla.. k whatever, have a nice day anyone everyone.

Ripley's' believe it or not

Sure hope that's not at me Seriously! .

I have many questions, one is not the authenticity of photos that are overwhelming the internet.

Have a look at Thailand, last I read 15 provinces were in state of emergency. Massive flooding....

I guess if I had same attitude as others, I wouldn't believe the Google English to Thai translation, or pictures.. probably fabricated... kk.. sorry rant.

Yes Minot pictures are overwhelming, to experience it first hand like you have must have been unsettling.

I am glad you have been able to provide eye-witness photos of the aftermath event. Photos, we will not see on the news.. that's for sure.

Seriously?

unbreakable1 said "What are you doing taking pictures of the aftermath? Fine, your home may be one of many that was victim of the flooding but still. If you go to Minot, just go shopping or if you have something to do at MSU, go there. Don't go around taking pictures of people's broken homes etc. Be part of the solution not part of the problem. Leave the pictures being taken and videos job for the media.

You may not have seen the other thread, but the person taking the pictures also posted more on the other thread, and they said:

'I have posted photos from Minot,ND yesterday as we were down to pick up our camper and our son who was helping family and friends with tearing out their homes to get rid of mold and contaminants.'

It's not like they went down there just to take pictures. I'm pretty sure they were helping and being a part of the solution instead of part of the problem as you were implying. They weren't harming anybody, so I don't see the problem with taking some pictures.

I'm a little late but just saw this and you are so correct,we were not down there to take pictures, we were there helping.
Our son had been there for a week, helping family and friends tear apart their homes and hauling debris, when we went down we helped as well and we were there to pick up our camper which had been used by at least 2 families when they needed it most.
These are our family and friends' homes not just random people, what has happened is heartbreaking. I took the pictures because I knew there was no way anyone would believe how bad it truly was and then decided to post them to stop the bogus rumors which had been going on for far too long now...our family and friends were all well aware I was taking photos and know that they are here to help show they need help and support.
