chokecherries

Hi,

We have a place about an hour away where we go to pick chokecherries, but I was wondering if they are ready yet. Does anyone know if they are turning black yet?

Not allowed in the kitchen

I had a hard time finding many chokecherries in our area this year, but I finally found enough to fill a icecream bucket, I supervised the making of the jelly, and made a real mess, and have been told that I'm not allowed in the kitchen anymore. As for the cherries, some are past and some are just ripening now, the hot weather will likely cause them to ripen real quick.

yes

I got permission from a farmer to go on his field and pick some. Made my jelly already.

If you ask around there are likely others who have some to pick. Not much left where I was. Apparently some people just figure they can drive across this farmers' field and help themselves, which really ticks 'em off (those not having permission). One year they hardly got any as a result of trespassers taking them and they were not impressed. Guess he could put up video cameras and have them charged?

Seems there are lots of illegal hunters as well. He's even caught them set up on the land with a lean-to! Kicked one off and the next night another was setting up! Pretty nervy.

trespassing

Where we pick is actually in a ditch, so we don't trespass. Yeah, I would be really ticked if other people picked the berries off my property without asking! And I would feel like crap if I got caught picking on someone else's land!

Recipe

I don't actually have recipe, and have absolutely no idea how it is made. I don't see any reason why I can't get the recipe. I'll my dad's house tomorrow and if my step-mom is home I'll see if she will give me the recipe.
