door to door stats canada household survey

Just had a guy appear at my door wanting to do a stats can household survey for 45 minutes. I just did something similair this summer and mailed it in. Told him that and he said this was different. Am i legally bound to do these surveys?

Legally bound?

Did he SAY you were legally bound to do the survey? If he did, I'd immediately ask for company identification. If he could produce that, I'd take down his info and tell him I'd get back to him. Then I'd call Stats Canada and get the full story.

If he couldn't produce company identification and he told you you were legally bound to do ANYTHING, I'd tell him to piss off and close the door.

This sounds fishy to me. Maybe he was just scoping the house but I would check with Stats Canada and or the police. Lock yor doors foe sure the next week or four!

I don't know if that's the right link

If it IS...

"This is the first time Statistics Canada will conduct this voluntary survey"

So you aren't "legally bound" to do it.

BUT, I don't see anything about them going door to door. I actually see this...

"Questionnaires for this survey will be distributed approximately four weeks after the census. Approximately, 4.5 million households will receive the NHS questionnaire"

"Distributed" and "Receive" would lead me to believe they're mailing them, not going door to door.

Nope, I'm wrong

http://www.statcan.gc.ca/survey-enquete/participant02-eng.htm

Statistics Canada surveys are conducted in person, by telephone or electronically.

So in this case, I probably wouldn't want to do the survey at the exact moment with the person, not to mention they'd be more persistent about ensuring you answer all personal questions like income. I'd tell him I'd do it if he left me a copy to do on my own time, but probably not invite him into my house to do it.

Again, assuming he could produce the proper ID.

I worked as an enumerator

on Census 2011 It was all finished in this area as of Aug 16th so it sounds pretty fishy to me.

they should have had ID and you could have asked for the number of their supervisor. LIve and learn, I hope you didn't give out anything like your S I N number.
