To the person who complained about me....

I am just so gosh-darn sorry that the garbage on my property offends you. I mean, if not for the fact that I was doing some home renovations, I am fairly certain it wouldn't be there. It comes and goes because, well garbage does just that. We get rid of it, make more, and so on.

I am so sorry that the fact that it has been there for a little while has made you break down and cry on the inside. I would have gotten rid of it sooner, but I was very busy last month having a heart attack. But then again, ignorance is bliss isn't it?

However, knowledge is power. According to Brandon City Planning, I do not need a permit to build a 6 foot high pravacy fence around my property. What will you do when you busy-body nusience can't spy on my house? Will you cry to city by-law about that too?

For the record, I am taking what I like to call a "Passive-Aggressive" approch on things. So I can assure you, I will be doing my research and staying within the law to do everything in my power to annoy, bother, and frustrate the living day-lights out of you.

Here is an idea. Grow a back-bone, get off of you high horse, and come talk to me like a civilized person. Or better yet, invite me to your house so I can see just how "perfect it is".

COwards like you make me physically sick. I will see you in court when I plee not guilty to this ticket.

Have a nice day

*hugs*

That sucks...

Didn't realize they would ticket people for that, couldn't they have just given you so long to clean it up? What does a ticket like that run at and what is the "charge"?

How you going to find time to build a fence when you can't even clean up some garbage?

i personally can't stand garbage and whatnot on people's yards. what's worse is when the yard is covered with poop (but this is mostly to do with smell and neglect toward the pet).

anyways, I can very easily tell when someone is doing renos. It's a lot of work and a lot of mess and well who cleans up everything every day inside and out? No one. My neighbour had a toilet and a bathtub on their yard for about 6 months. Yes, it looked like junk, but eventually it went.

what's my point?

i'm not sure.

I like your passive aggressive stance, but maybe just let them know that the junk isn't taking permenant residence on your yard or ask them if they'd like to help you with removing it.

very sorry to hear about your heart attack.

Gotta love

The nosy neighbors!!! That's way I'm glad I don't have any! I always said it's a shame you can't sound out the current owners when buying a house to ask about the neighbors!! Some people just have nothing better to do than get into everyone else's business!

Ignorance is bliss

The garbage is at the bottom of a slopped driveway. Believe me, I hate looking at it too. We did 4 truck and trailer loads last weekend and the rest is frozen in oplace (my driveway gets no sun so the snow cany melt) But again, ignorance is bliss. We have gotten rid of most of it. The massive black kitchen cupboards were in the driveway, and they have since been disposed of. I have some people moveout and lets just say they were less then tidy and leaft a great deal of garbage. My fault for having poor choice in tenants.

And well bigmoe, time has nothing to do with it. I have lots of time. Its a matter of the trash being frozen to the ground for atleast another few days. But for yet another time, ignorance is bliss.

I'm on your side, if people are so bother about things at times, why don't they quit hiding behind the million of laws we have, and address the issue face to face. They could of at least came and mentioned it, and then if it was such a problem they could of HELPED to remove it.

Hmmm

First of all sorry to hear about your heart attack, hope all is well.

But in reference to a neighbour standpoint. How long has this "garbage" been there? I had a neighbour who refused to mow, and the weeds and nests were unbelievable, which affected the whole neighbourhood. Also he had 13 bags of garbage that was rotting, etc along the back of the fence (garbage did not make it to the back lane). The rodent population exploded, as well as the insect (wasps) was incredible. So I have reported this neighbour alot. He was given many warnings by other neighbours as well as the city. The city finally came and did it.

Also there is a few places where I have seen the "renovation garbage" pile so high, and sit for so long, that yes it would drive neighbours crazy. Especially when it becomes unsafe for their children to play outside or things start nesting in that garbage. There is a house on 26th st, that the garbage has been ridiculous in the driveway for at least a year now. It's not hidden by any fences. I could see the neighbours complaining about that, it is a huge eyesore. When renovating, why not rent one of those big bins to throw things in, instead of just throwing it outside all over. On a windy day, many things could end up in a neighbours yard as well and that shouldn't be their responsibility to clean. Just a suggestion!

Good Luck!

well

the thing is if it wasn't against a by-law you wouldn't have got a ticket for it... You can't fault some one for not wanting to look at garbage. I understand that life happens and you can't always get to things as fast as you'd like to, but at the same time if it can't be gotten to in a timely manner you also can't expect not to be fined for it.

Why spend $110 on renting a bin when we can takeit to the dump for free? which we were doing but then somebody had their feelings hurt and cried to the city of Brandon because it would appear that other issues like the increase in taxes, of homelessness, poverty and hungry don't matter to them, they just have to piss, moan and cry about garbage which was being removed. The garbage is dirctly between a house and a fence. It wasnt going anywhere

It's your yard!!

If the neighbors don't like it don't look I say!! People are so quick to assume and judge another. Sorry you are dealing with stuff like this. When I lived in the city, my vegan neighbor complained that the meat I was cooking on MY Bar-b-que, in MY yard was making her nauseas. I couldn't believe it. So I told her to stay inside and close her window as it wouldn't take long as I love my steak rare with the blood running off my plate!! Lol
Sometimes people complain just to complain!!

Generally

in my experience these tickets never are written based on only ONE complaint. There have probably been several complaints over time about your yard which is now why you are receiving a fine under the by-law. As you stated, your garbage comes and goes and people are bound to complain if there there is a constant state of garbage in your yard.

obviously the person that came by from the city must have agreed that this was a valid complaint.

always happens....

when a person knowingly breaks the law with complete disregard for their neiubours...and then blasts the neighbour for complaining to the authorities...they always say the same thing....he should have complaine d to me face to face...yeah right...thats where fist fights start...i run into the same thing with my neighbour with the 2 barking dogs in his back yard...this is a person who could care less about the noise...the only way to stop it is to call the bylaw enforcement people...get off your high horse!

BS

I have seen the yard in question and it was lots of garbage. It has been sitting for a year with some being taken away and then new stuff added to the pile. Instead of all the late night parties gather all those underage drinkers during the day and get them to help.

The over all problem is that (as stated twice now) I don't know who it was who made the complaint. If the person had come and discussed the issue with me, I would have more then willing to sit and discuss it with them (also previously stated) and come to a resolution which didn't cost me $200. However, the fact that they didn't bother to come knock on my door, I think the time for discussing things is passed. I have spoken with City By-Law and now that person who complained will have to take a day off and attend court.

Now, I am not sure what religion/church has to do with this but if you would like to turn this into a religous debate, hey, we can go there.

We disagree, I think that you're way off-base but that's your decision. I'll break things down one last time:

You'd rather spend $200.00 in fines than $110.00 for a dumpster?

You'd rather blame someone for sticking up for their rights than clean up the mess you're responsible for?

You'd rather call someone a coward than knock on a few doors and find out who it was and explain that it won't happen again?

The religious thing came because you call yourself an ordained minister. I wouldn't expect any person of religious bent to have my respect if they acted like that....

There is no under age drinking there at all. Anybody who comes into the house actually has to show me their ID if they are drinking to ensure they are of age. *Cough cough ignorant cough*

The garbage has not been sitting there a year. It has been removed and then more is placed there as walls get removed *couch couch ignorant*

Late night parties? There hasn't been a party at that house since the fall which would be considered "Late Night" where in people were kicked out at 1230. *cough cough IGNORANT COUCH WEEZE*

Yes I do understand that garbage comes and goes. But if this is the house I am thinking of, that garbage has been there a long time. Maybe not the exact same garbage, but it has been out there for close to a year now. Maybe not as much. When it goes it is quickly replaced with more, meaning there has been garbage there continously. Would have been cheaper to rent the bin, than the fine. Also if this is the house, it was there long before your ill health, meaning there has been time for it to go.
No, noone's children should be playing in your driveway. But what if a few nails rolled to their yard and kids stepped on them, as well as various parts. As you said this is on the driveway, seen by all.
Once again if this is the house I think it is, some of that garbage has gone places such as the meridian outside. If this is not the same house I do apologize, but if it could happen to them then it could happen to you.
For all those beautifying our neighbourhoods, this house I am referring to has been like this for a long time and is all piled on a driveway on a very busy street. I can definetly see people complaining. We shake our heads everytime we drive past that house, and check to see how much more has been added to it. Maybe it wasn't a neighbour, could be anyone driving by.

If I was a member of your church I'd be having a few words with you on Sunday in front of your flock.

Maybe your anger issues have something to do with you having a heart attack at thirty years old.

After reading your vehement post, why wouldn't you talk to your neighbour and open an effective means of communication? "

"

We disagree, I think that you're way off-base but that's your decision. I'll break things down one last time:

You'd rather spend $200.00 in fines than $110.00 for a dumpster?

You'd rather blame someone for sticking up for their rights than clean up the mess you're responsible for?

You'd rather call someone a coward than knock on a few doors and find out who it was and explain that it won't happen again?

The religious thing came because you call yourself an ordained minister. I wouldn't expect any person of religious bent to have my respect if they acted like that....
"

I would rather drive garbage bags to the dump when things aren't frozen to the ground then pay either.

And they are sticking up for what right? Their right to be a coward and not confront me? Really? *face palm*

.!.

Honestly... IMO... everyone has the "right" to be a coward and not confront someone - as you put it.

Based on what I've read here, I certainly wouldn't have confronted you either. You keep saying how you'd talk with them about it, but I have a feeling confronting you would turn into some kind of screaming match - or worse - come to blows.

Just have your day in court, and make sure your yard/driveway or wherever this trash is sitting is clean. People have the right to complain if it's an eyesore or a health hazard.

And like others have said... obviously the complaint had some standing or else you wouldn't have been given a fine.

tenants

my guess is that your tenants weren't too good at keeping the yard and they finally had enough and called in a complaint. Maybe the by-law officer had already given warnings to your tenants. I am just wondering why you got a ticket and not a warning - was it that bad.

Sorry to hear about your heart attack. Hope you are feeling better.

This is why we moved out of town. Don't have to look at messy yards or deal with bad neighbors.

yikes

I'm glad this isn't my neighbour.

I would also have called if I had to look at piles of crap on my block for a year. 2 of my neighbours have done renos in the last year and they both have rented the large brown dumpsters and the mess was always tidy and out of sight.

I would prefer to call and let the people that are paid to deal with this stuff handle it, unless I knew the person and knew they weren't crazy!

sticks&stones said "I have seen the yard in question and it was lots of garbage. It has been sitting for a year with some being taken away and then new stuff added to the pile. Instead of all the late night parties gather all those underage drinkers during the day and get them to help. "

If you are going to talk about something, please, make sure you have your facts straight. If not, by the dictionary defination, that is ignorant. meaning to be uneducated in a particular matter.

*hugs* "

Well I happen to know this all to be true, I personally know one of the underage drinkers that frequents your house. the garbage in the driveway is never ending and yes late night parties. so cough and wheeze to you.
