| | | What kind of relationship do you expect between media and your political representation? | | |
A hot topic in one form or another that interestingly enough I don't think we've done on eBrandon in the level of depth that it could be. Going back I'm sure as far as anyone can remember, media outlets have been seen as having a particular slant (whether in perception or reality).. both in terms of perceived political bias in the stories they choose to cover and how they choose to cover them.
I tend to look at it as a continuum. At one end you have essentially a cheerleader that plays the role of communicating decisions made by politicians and perhaps re-enforcing/explaining reasoning behind them. On the other end you have what could be considered a relentless attack dog, constantly picking bones with decisions made.
Both extremes have their place and contribute to an overall balance thats necessary in a community. One provides an element of re-enforcement thats often needed. The other, whether right or wrong in any individual opinion, helps to ensure a level of accountability by the debates that they instigate. Of course when most outlets employ a variety of voices it woud be hard to categorize any given one as being hardly on one side or the other, with some being close to the middle and others perhaps coming across as leaning more towards one side than the other.
Which brings me to a couple of questions...
- Where do you prefer your media falls on that scale?
- Where in your opinion do Brandon's various media fall? What are you basing that opinion on? Feel free to build on or rebut anyone else's opinion, since these kinds of things often come as much down to perception as anything else. |

| | | Media | | |
Newspaper has always been in bed with the Mayor or Political Party of the day, no matter who.
It's in their best interest to coddle the people in power.
They have to co-operate or their arse is grass and nobody will talk with them.

| | | my opinion | | |
I find that it doesn't help when citizens know that certain people in media are close friends with people in power, in fact it totally screws us up when trying to read and decide on our own what is fact or what is cheerleading for a certain friend.
I prefer for the media to show us both sides and let us make up our own mind. MOST people if presented with FACTS can make up their own minds.
The written word is very powerful! |

i would prefer media be unbiased but the media has to pick what to use and how to portray the story so in reality that is hard to achieve, i have noticed certain national or global news carriers lean certain ways but as far as brandons media i get most of my info from general posters on here so its hardly proven or unbiased lol |
