| | | 1976 Rosser Ave Ukranian restaurant? | | |
Does anyone know the name of the little ukranian restaurant that was on Rosser Ave in 1976? It was located in the same building that Little Italy Pizzeria opened in years later.
We used to get lunch from there all the time and they had the best "Uke Burger" of all time.
I have been trying to remember the name of this place for days and Mr. Google was of no help. Edited by admin, 2012-06-23 14:15:40. Reason: Change of title to be more specific of topic |

the Golden Perogy was always on Princess Ave. The place wasn't open that long...less than a year but they sure had great food. |

The Golden Perogie building was sold to Clancy's Eatery at 1133 Princess Avenue in the past few years.
I grew up in Brandon, but don't particularly remember this restaurant, although I used to frequent Rodo's restaurant further east of the Chamber of Commerce (formerly Library) Block on Rosser for their chili burgers.
Looks like the place you remember may have been in the 1300 block of Rosser, Pita?
Did I miss the best Uke burger ever? |

Michelle, you probably did. It was on the north side of Rosser between 13th and 14th.
J.A.Keddy's had their new (at the time) building on the corner of 14th and Rosser and when I worked for them we had lunch there regularly.

I'm surprised you can't remember that place, you are very good at remembering the old buildings in town. This one has me stumped as well. In that area there was Johnson Sound but I sure don't remember the resteraunt ? That has me puzzled. |

yes i see that, thought that was the address. Perhaps "On rosser in 1976" might have made more grammatical sense. |

| | | Hmmm | | |
You're right on all accounts that this one is puzzling, Cruiser.
Soul, Avenue Lunch isn't even ringing a bell for me personally, but then again my memory might be getting the best of me.
If anyone happens to be at the Public Library, the Henderson Directory should confirm the name, although as Pita mentioned to me, the place fell under the short-lived category.
And in my haste regarding the mention of Golden Perogy/Clancy's building, I realized that Miss Q's was in between the two. I never frequented Miss Q's, so it fell off my radar a litte.

Pita,
In one of my subscription geneaology websites, I found an ad in a Brandon Sun edition, dated April 3, 1976 that refers to the same 1323 Rosser Avenue address that Little Italy Pizzeria was located.
"Mature minded person for evening shift 30-40 hours a week. Apply in person to George's Submarines and Deli, 1323 Rosser, A6"
Could this be the restaurant by chance? |

My pleasure, Pita.
I'm always up for a challenge and it was bugging me as well.
Whoever George was, he obviously made a wicked Uke Burger.

George is my uncle and a Uke to boot. I remember the restraunt from my early childhood, my Mom worked there for awhile as well. If there was one thing my uncle loved to do was experience amazing food. I am sure he would be thrilled to hear that some in this city still remember it. |

Can Pita and I rook him into releasing his Uke Burger original method? Now that could be the ultimate compliment.
You just never know! |
