Sonu Mauritian Food Restaurant

If you haven't been there yet you have to go! The food was amazing! Not only that the prices are great too! We will definitely be making this one of our regular restaurants!

Can you elaborate what type of food is there, where is it located, what the prices are like? I've never heard of the place.

we

Had the buffet. It had rice, a curry, chicken and potato dish.. a really yummy non curry tomato sauce, a bean type curry dish, and there were also a few yummy salads and the dessert was pretty good too. They had little donut type things and a rice pudding.. there was more, but i can't remember what exactly. As far as the price $26 got 2 buffets and a coke.. not bad at all, we thought

Mauritius is this tiny island in the indian ocean off Madagascar and their food is a crazy fusion of French, Indian, Chinese and African foods. Sonu is operating out of the Knights inn on Princess and 5th street.

Right now, as they are doing their market testing phase I believe they are doing buffet 2 times a day for 7 days a week plus breakfast. Besides that I believe you can order their daily special but not just anything from the menu.

The food is great and the price for my dinner buffet was $10.99! Also there we're nice tablecloths and overall a cute ambiance.

Definitely give it a try. It's so awesome to see them getting a new dining option out there in the community.

Well,

We were there for the buffet..they only had chicken curry, cauliflower curry, rice, salsa, a salad( that consisted with just lettuce, vinegar and, sliced spiced apples) , and 3 types of dessert.
It would have been better, if they added at least 1 or more main dish/entree...
I would rate it a 5-6/10 for food/taste/flavor.

how is this different from Chili Chutney?!

Sonu Mauritian Food Restaurant, located in the Knights Inn hotel on the corner of Princess and 5th, is a WONDERFUL addition to the Brandon dining out experience.
We ate there today for the lunch buffet and absolutely loved the food-can't wait to go back for dinner or another lunch.
The lovely people who have opened this restaurant are newly from Mauritius and really know how to cook.
The food is fresh and very tasty, there is plenty of variety and NO wilty lettuce salad in sight.
Go there, you will be SO glad you did!

.........

We had the buffet a few weeks ago, can't say we enjoyed it.

The buffet was limited and the food was bland IMO. It's like Indian food without the spice. We didn't have the best luck with the service either, we were the only people there and we had already been through the buffet before we were offered drinks and the dishes weren't labelled so we didn't know what we were eating, we asked the staff but they didn't really answer our questions.

I'm gonna give them some time to work out the kinks and we'll try again.

Only table there. Servers were great but language barrier. Buffet was limited but had some flavour. Labelling at the buffet would have been helpful. Didn't know what we were eating but the rice. Atmosphere was quiet & relaxing and bright. From the six of us who were there, 3 of us will try it again.

It's all about the specials for me. Tonight I grabbed a Chicken briyani and a Fish Curry with flatbread and it was so amazing...and will be again later when I'm less stuffed and can eat again!

If the owners are straight from Mauritius, I'd love to speak some French there and try the crêpes sometime.

A couple thumbs up

Met a couple of guys there this past Tuesday - thought food was good but more mild than I would have expected. And service would adequate. We were the only ones in there and was nice to get the personal attention. The more NON-Crusty-White food the better!
