New Dog Park to be built on Hanbury Hill location

I see they have staked out the greenspace area adjacent to Hanbury Hill for the next dog park! Looking forward to it, small and big dog park to be located there!

...

sounds great! how big does it look to be? I just hope us 'northerners' can keep it a lot cleaner than the others.

I

it isn't very large to be honest, but it's better to use that greenspace for something of this nature! I'm glad to see the city making small changes in this way!

Good news

Good,,,glad to hear it. Hopefully my neighbours can take their dogs over there instead of letting them crap all over the housing complex.

I know there

has been lots of negative posts about other dog parks in the city, lets set a precedent and keep this one clean, drama free, and incident free. I will certainly speak up if I see someone not picking up after their dog, and I hope you all will do the same.

Yes Adam

that's where I saw it marked off.

There is going to be a small dog area there as well, good for those who have small dogs!

Wondering

Will this dog park addition have any effect on the existing dog parks in Brandon?

Of course it will!

Residents of the north hill area can now conveniently take their dogs close by! The other parks will still be used.

I'm

guessing it's replacing the dog park that was by the river.

I was just a bit concerned about perhaps losing a dog park - The Pooch Park in particular with this new addition. Hope not.

Was?

It would be a shame to lose the Pooch Park. It use to be gorgeous down there and overrun with dogs loving the open field and water. When it isn't flooded, it's ideal!

Location

I personally am not happy about this. I am a north hill resident and the traffic at 18th and Braecrest is brutal. We do not need the extra traffic on this corner.

with the fact traffic is brutal at that location but I think change is good for Brandon! With that may come increased traffic, but it is inevitable this would happen at some point.

Traffic?

Won't this park be mostly used by local residents? If I lived south of the river I would rather go to any of the other dog parks than go up the hill to use that one.
To me this is just another case of NIMBY. I support the park being there. It will eliminate the traffic at 18th and Braecrest that are heading down to the Pooch Park.

Dog park

According to the Dept of Community Services the City is in fact in the process of developing a dog park in that area, which will include a smaller fenced off area for smaller dogs. The tender on fencing just closed on Friday so it could be a little bit depending on who does the work and their schedule, but the hope is that it'll be ready late August.

Dog park

Not sure if it's officially open yet but the fence and gates are up sans any signage. Added a couple pics

One concern

While it is fenced, it is very close to the road. I know that dogs are to be leashed outside the enclosure to say, the car but not all owners leash up their pets. It would be horrible if a speedy pooch ran into the road.

Also, the pooch park is still being used as a dog park, it's just not pretty. I really hope the Pooch Park continues to be designated as an offleash dog park.

I might have missed it. Is there a name for this new park on Braecrest?

small!!

I know there isn't much space but to my dog it's to small. I have a miniature dashound and the "small" dog part is way to small! They still need to run too! But each there own, I'm sure many will love it!

We went this morning

and our little dog love it, we had the whole park to ourselves which was nice since it was his first time going to an off leash. One thing i noticed is the "small dog" area is way to small, our little dog ran the big area for about 1/ an hour, he wouldnt get any use out of the smaller area. Another issue is, there is no garbage can/bag dispenser inside the park. The disposal outside on the sidewalk was full, overflowing and people left their poop bags on the groud beside the garbage. If the city wants this to be succesful, I hope they make a few small changes.

Couple Points that need to be made:

First of all:
To the posters saying that we should keep this one cleaner then the rest. There are several of us at the other bark parks that help keep the area's clean. We clean up dog messes that aren't our pets, various garbage that we see lying around etc. You can't make comments like that and expect not the get back lashed at. It is each individual persons responsibility to clean up after there pet, whether it be bathroom messes or just general garbage. I myself go to the east end one and it isn't as bad as most make it out to be.

Second: I am glad that there is finally a small area for smaller dogs. Hopefully this will eliviate some of the negitive issues regards the mix of large and small breeds. However there are some negitive comments about how small it is. You wanted it, it got built, now deal with it. We (dog owners) and the city just can't seem to win in regards to this issue.

Third: The other bark parks will still continue to get use. There are a few of us at the east end one that know each other and visit regularly there. I know myself I look forward to taking my pup there for a play and a visit with other adults. We look out for one another and our dogs. We notice one of the others making a mess and let the owners know. It's all about how you go about it.

Forth: You probably do not see garbage bins and puppy mess bags there yet as it has just been built. These will come eventually, so in the mean time just take some from home with you.

All in all I am glad to see that the city has answered the need of dog owners and built another bark park for us dog owners. The north hill is a great location as I know many that drive down to the others. Having them spread out in different area's of the city helps cater to each of us.

Good luck to those on the north hill, may your dogs, pups, pooches and yourselves enjoy it!

Hanbury Hill Dog Park

Has anyone taken their dog there yet? We drove by this morning and it looks like it could be open. We noticed though, the double gates on the west side of the park have quite a decent sized gap between them and also the ground, allowing for dogs to possibly get out....should this be a concern?

Like I said earlier

we took our little guy there and he loved it, we had the whole park to ourselves and he ran like crazy. He has never been off leash so it was a thrill for him. The small dog area is to small, even a little dog can't run in there. As for trash containers, that should have been done by now, I take bags from home and put them in my own garbage, but not everyone does. There were full poop bags in the fenced area, it would be nice to have a trash can there.

People!!

Please take your full poop bags out of the park, we went yesterday and there were at least 15 full bags on the groung beside one of the benches. Take them home or use the garbage just outside on the sidewalk. If you were walking your dog you wouldn't just leave the bad on the ground so why do it here.

I HOPE EVERYONE AGREES

the dog park on the north hill should have to get for the small dog area changed. Instead of it running east and west, if they changed it running north and south the little dogs wouldnt have to be approached by the large dogs to get into their own area. Just a suggestion but a good one I think. A lot of small dogs are intimided by large dogs running up to them. This could turn them off the park.
