man hit by a train

there is a picture on the Brandon Sun Website of a man hit by a train.

This is the caption under the picture:

"Emergency workers tend to a man who was struck by a train just east of First Street and Van Horne Avenue in Brandon on Wednesday morning. The man's condition was not immediately known, although it appeared he was a railway employee."

I hope he is not badly injured.

Couldn' be worse

Get you facts right before you post. It could have bee far worse we could have lost him, so think before youake a stupid statement and be respectful of his family before you post this message to the general Public

yes i agree get your facts right before post on here and saying that it was not too bad really think about his family what they are goin through right now and the young guy what he is going through, girlfriend what she is going through. some people know these people personally. this guy is not doing well and people on here are saying at least he did not die really people. find something better to discuss other than this find the facts out right before posting. i know both the guy and girlfriend and i am so saddened and thinking of him and the family right

Perhaps Brenda's point is not the sad injury of the employee, but the ambiguity of the quote.

My heart goes out to this young man and his family. There is a very hard rocky road ahead. Hopefully all works out well. I know someone who lost a leg in a farming accident so I know how devestating this can be.

chill...

This is a devastating tragedy. And yes, some may know him and some may not. Some may know of, or be the one, in his position at any point of their life. By recognizing the balance of "it could be worse"... one is trying to appreciate the positives in life that remains amidst a trying event. Sometimes these words, albeit a different context, are said to remind loved ones and victims to focus on what they can to survive the bad. I am fairly confident that the post was not meant to minimize the injuries and trauma this young man suffered, but to instead balance out the 'pain'. Publicized events can be hard on society too... reminders of past events in personal lives, or as examples that instill fear, precaution, and appreciation in those who are uninvolved.

Thoughts go out to the young man and all those who are hurting from this sad event.

Brandon Police

The information below was a part of this morning's Brandon Police Service media release. Thoughts are with the victim and those close to him at this time.

---------------------

Industrial Accident
At 10:48 AM on Wednesday, Police received a report of a possible train versus pedestrian accident on the CN Rail line, east of 1st Street. It was found that the incident was actually a workplace accident, where a CN employee was injured when he apparently fell from a moving train. An adult male was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Workplace Health and Safety was initially contacted, but the accident was referred to Transport Canada for investigation because CN Rail is a Federal corporation. The victim has since been transferred to a hospital in Winnipeg.

......

I feel so bad for this young man and his family and friends. I worked with him during his training and he is a great guy. I hope with the support of friends and family he can over come this horrific accident.

He is looking forward to the bright future that he has, and with that kind of positive outlook and the support he will get from all who love him he will succeed.

Thank you for coming on here and providing us with a bit of personal information about this. Regardless of what type of accident happens, I think that the majority of people are concerned about the victim and how they are doing and how they are recovering and dealing with the results. The accident is in the past and now there is just the future, and it's nice to see he has a good attitude as well as the support of family and friends.

Good luck, and wishing him the best.

The road to recovery

Just an update. This man is recovering well, but has a long road. As a family member, I would like to thank all of the emergency staff at the BRHA, the EMS, as well as the Life Flight staff. These people were fantastic, they gave my nephew excellent care, they also extended their kindness to me.

To all the people and you know who you are that have worked with him or know him, your good wishes have been heard and it touches all of us, especially "the man".

I do have only one complaint - this thread was on here so quickly, there were people who should have been called and found out on here. It was difficult for my family.

i wish your nephew a good recovery and a long joyful life, unfortunately with internet news travels fast but i would hope that names were not released until family was told other than that i'm not sure what you can do? i understand it can be worrying but the accident already happened, anyway i do hope him and all his family the best and the privacy they desire during recovery

I too wish this man a very speedy recovery.

I started this thread, but it was started only after a picture was on the front page of the Brandon Sun website. So, it had already been available to anyone.

While watching this South African athlete on the Olympics today, I thought of your family member, as I have done many times since his accident. I work in the rail industry and can really relate and feel for him. Share this story with him if he is ready, maybe it will help. Also let him know that many people he have never met are thinking about him.

Hope it helps
