Flashing yellow traffic lights do not mean stop. Flashing red mean stop. People are treating the intersection of 26th and Victoria like a four way stop and that's not what it is! People who have yellow have the right of way. Approach the intersection cautiously yes, but you do not need to hold up traffic by stopping!!!!!!! |

| | | yep | | |
a flashing yellow means proceed with caution, and flashing red means stop. seems that 90% of people coming up to that flashing yellow....stops! i guess the caution is look out for the person stopping in front of you ..... LOL |

like i said 90% of people think....read it on the HTA. also common sence, yellow isnt a stop sign, red is .....
Right from the HTA
When a yellow or amber flashing traffic control light is shown at an intersection by a traffic control signal,
(a) the driver of a vehicle at or approaching the intersection and facing the light
(i) may enter the intersection only with caution, and
(ii) shall yield the right-of-way, stopping if necessary, to a pedestrian
(A) who is within the intersection or a crosswalk adjacent to the traffic control signal, or
(B) who is crossing a roadway within a crosswalk and is upon the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is travelling, or is approaching from the other half of the roadway and is so close that he is in danger: and
(b) a pedestrian facing the light may proceed across the roadway, and has a right-of-way for that purpose over all vehicles.

everything you hear on the radio, it would be a hot day in january before they would be held responsible for giving you false informtion which caused you an accident. Look up rules of the road, call your local plice dept, call a driver ed company if you are not sure. Don't google it cause half the stuff on the net is wrong anyway.
yellow flasher is proceed with caution and solid yellow is clear the intersection.
red flash is stop and proceed when safe red is stop.
province and city sometimes add to the confusion by putting both sets of lightsd on red flash, but neither side knows what the otrher is seeing, far better off with, flashing red and yellow.
another one that drives me crazy is when in the left hand turn lane at a red light, the car at the front of the line sits behind the cross walk and waits, they are should be entering the intersection just short of halfway then proceed when the lights change to yellow and the oncoming traffic slows or stops.
it is legal for one car to enter enter the intersection and then clear when the light changes.

if it was yellow both ways i would hope the powers to be would send someone out to fix that because bradys right, flashing yellow means proceed with caution and the intersection should not give both sides the same yellow |

With the amount of bad drivers there are out there, I'd rather be safe and stop at the yellow, check to see if the intersection is clear, and then proceed when it's safe to do so. |

that may be true but thats the cities/hiways fault for setting the lights, they should set them according to what the intersection needs, not that i would be annoyed at stopping all ways, its fair enough but thats not what the signal means |

| | | I was at | | |
that intersection on friday night going east into the city. If I had not stopped at the yellow flashing light would have been t-boned by the elderly lady turning south on the 26 from coming west on Vic (that must be following your rules about not stopping). Any normal person will slow right down to protect themselves from an accident. Plus how do you know until you are thru the intersection that all the lights aren't flashing the same colors? If as some are stating that they were ALL flashing yellow at times then everyone would be trying to go thru at the the same time. I'm sure me coming to a stop before proceeding thru the light to avoid a possible accident did not make you that late to get stopped at the next working red light! And I still have a bright shiny truck. |
