Lawyer Referrals

Anyone know of any lawyers who do pro-bono or work on "if you win x amount of received judgement goes to them and you?

Now will consider referrals in Brandon or Winnipeg. Oh and the area of expertise being sought is FAMILY LAW -

If you have any situation for which you feel you can share please send private message. Thank You!

"Without Prejudice"
Kinda of surprising that not even a lawyer from Brandon who does not wish to take on the case or Legal Aid for which Mr. Giesbrecht does not want to waste tax payers dollars on a case and they end up having to self-represent at a Trial - or want to give an leads for legal counsel options.
I thought that this country had it that every citizen is entitled to representation in the courts.

I guess I must have a misunderstanding of what the Justice system is all about in this fine province or shall I say in this city of Brandon anyways.

Representation

that you refer to I believe only applies in Criminal matters.

There are very few lawyers across Canada anymore that will do work on a contingency basis without some form of a retainer up front, or so that is what I have been told.

Family law is an ugly subject at the best of times, and I am not sure how you would base a contingency setting on that regardless? Even if you win a judgement in family court, you still have to collect it. That would mean the lawyer is potentially working for nothing, if a judgement is made and then there is no way to collect it.

As for pro bono, I don't see that too much anymore either. Although I am not a lawyer, I always think of it this way, if someone asked me to work for free for two months(or however long it would take) would I do it? Could I afford to do it?

Sadly, in most cases that I know of, the people end up defending themselves the best they can unless they have thousands of dollars to spend on legal defence. I have no idea what it costs in today's day and age, but when my parents got divorced it cost my mother a little over $20K in legal bills and expenses and that was in the late 1980's.

Get Counseling

As many posters have stated in your other threads, get counseling, find a good psychologist first.

Even with a lawyer, if you go into court spouting off like many of your entries on eBrandon, the other lawyer will have a field day and you will look like a fool and any "evidence" you present will therefore come from a fool and be judged accordingly.

If I was a lawyer and you came into my office with the same incoherent thoughts that you have presented so far, I would show you the door no matter how much money you would pay me. To ask a qualified lawyer to also first do some major personal counseling with you and then the whole package for pro bono, I can see why they would turn you down.

Get counseling and work on fixing the first problem - yourself. Then, once you are back to thinking straighter, then you can look at legal problems.

This is advice from the legal aid lawyer Lorne Giesbrecht. He just about threw me out of his office because of my distraught presentation of myself. I realized I would lose a fantastic lawyer if I used him as a psychologist. I got help and then returned to Mr. Lorne Giesbrecht, LLB who helped me with the legal situation to get what I deserved out of my twelve year marriage.

???

I agree with pretty much everyone else who thinks you need to give it a rest and seek some help!!!!! And I normally don't agree with Katwalk much, but her post on this thread is bang on....... "Even with a lawyer, if you go into court spouting off like many of your entries on eBrandon, the other lawyer will have a field day and you will look like a fool and any "evidence" you present will therefore come from a fool and be judged accordingly."I agree with her whole post, but this paragraph in particular.

Also, just because you've learned the term 'without prejudice' and write it before the majority of your ramblings, doesn't mean that what you say on eBrandon can't be used against you in court!!!!

Ugh...

I know a few lawyers, and pretty much all of them hate doing family law. One summed it up: "They want you to be a <illegitimate male child>, get them everything they want, and are the ones most likely to try to skip on the bill - win or lose."

Good luck to you, but you're fighting an uphill battle.
