| | | Obituaries section added to eBrandon | | |
You will notice today that there is now a link in the eBrandon menu titled Obituaries.
This is a section that has been added to this website in response to requests I've received from people who look for this information and would like it included as part of eBrandon.
There are two main parts to the Obituaries section:
- a listing of Obituaries that have been posted on the websites of Memories Chapel and Brockie Donovan. These include links to the obituary on the funeral service provider's website. Each have websites that give the opportunity to read an obituary, share an expression of sympathy and learn about plans for a service.
- a Brandon cemetery search that allows you to search the City's cemetery database. This includes data going back to before 1900 as provided to the public through the City's Open Data initiative.
I will be contacting other funeral service providers in Southwestern Manitoba as I would like to also include obituaries from outside of Brandon. I'd like to thank Brockie Donovan and Memories Chapel for their co-operation as part of the development of this section. |

Very good Adam. I never thought of this on EBrandon, but I'm sure it will be a well used resource. Keep up the good work. |

its a great idea as ebrandon is my go to source for local news and events, it would be nice if other westman towns participated because many of us are from the local surrounding communities |

Any chance of adding Rosewood Memorial Gardens as well? |

| | | Rosewood Memorial Garden | | |
Thank you for the suggestion.
The Obituaries section would include Obituaries from Brockie Donovan or Memories regardless of cemetery but I agree that the cemetery search feature would be that much more valuable of a resource if data from Rosewood Memorial Garden was included too. The same could be said for the Cemetery Search iPhone App.
I've sent a message to Rosewood and will see what possibilities there might be. Robert do you know how often the data from the Geneology Society is updated? For consistency's sake my preference would be to get it directly from Rosewood just as we are from the Brandon Cemetery, but if there are other data sources that are up to date and easily accessible then they might be an option too. |

What about a Birth Section? I mean, reading about deaths is kind of...depressing. So why not do Births and Birthdays as well? |

I mentioned the Geniology Society because Rosewood have always saud they were going on line but as far as I know they have not done this to date. |

| | | It would be nice | | |
to have access to other Funeral Homes as well, like Carberry, Neepawa, Minnedosa, etc. Is that in the works, Adam? |

| | | Other funeral homes | | |
Lucille58: eBrandon is definitely a lot more than just a Brandon site. I tend to look at it as serving a box that starts at RMNP, East to MacGregor, South to the US border and West to Saskatchewan. Because its a sensitive subject I'm hesitant to loudly promote it but I've sent messages to several other funeral homes in Westman to see if this is a service that they might want to be a part of. If you are in contact with anyone thats involved with a funeral home within the area that eBrandon serves please don't hesitate to mention that the option is there for them to be included. The same would go for the cemetery search option and any cemeteries that would like for people to be able to search any data that they would like to make publicly available. I'm willing to put in extra work where necessary to build this service.
IMO: I agree that it would be nice to include births, engagements and weddings and may look at that in the not too distant future too.

this is a great addition to the ebrandon site. I will email this suggestion to the Funeral Directors in Souris as they cover a large area (as do most small town Funeral Homes).

There are mornings where I think I should check the Obituaries to make sure I am not listed.
This would be an important link for those that have moved away but still want to keep track of what is happening around town. Sometimes we lose track and it is through a notice in the paper that I find out about someone's sister or husband passing and that I should let them know that I am ready to help in any way I can even if it may be from a distance. |
