| | | Direct drive garage door openers?? | | |
Does anyone on ebrandon know of a business in Brandon that sells the direct drive door openers?? I am wanting to put on in but can't find them in any of the stores I have looked.
They are not the typical door opener that goes on the ceiling of the garage either, these ones mount where the rod that has the spring on it goes and saves a lot of room.
Any help would be grateful thanks |

Thank you so much! I have been looking for them but like I said any of the bigger stores do not have them. Getting one shipped here is quite costly as well.

Residential Jackshaft operators can be purchased from and installed by any of the door companies in town: Universal Door, Overhead Door of Brandon and Kevin Funk Overhead Doors.
Be aware you will need an outlet about two feet from where you intend to mount. It is illegal to run one off an extension cord.
EDIT: DO not buy an i-drive if they still make them. Get the Liftmaster 3800.
I used to work for Kevin so I know a little about them. Edited by ChrisV, 2012-08-11 12:19:58 |

Liftmaster Elite 3800PC is the two that I requested be installed in the new house we moved into a couple weeks ago.
Absolutely love them! Super quiet, the last foot or so they close slower / more softly, and no ugly chain above the middle of each garage bay! I especially chose these so the chain drive was deleted which makes room for my car lift (11 foot ceilings) which I should have on Monday!
I think mine came from Universal Door here in Brandon. Might be a special order. I highly recommend these guys anyway, Jon is awesome!

| | | Better idea?! | | |
That does look to be a much better idea than the style with the T-bar and chain. Wonder why more home don't have this? I just quickly looked thru the operators manual but it doesn't say how much room do you need to install it? Also, didn't read if it can drive from either side, or only the right side? They are pricey compared to ceiling mount rail operators.
They can be mounted on either side, I am sure.
Room requirements are on page 3 of the manual. |

Room requirements are essentially 0. If you have a foot on each outside door that's more than enough. They can be mounted right or left hand. Cost, I can't really comment. I build a new home with a contractor and it was a 200 to 300 dollar upgrade iirc. Totally worth it IMHO. No regrets. Cleaner looking and quieter. I don't nickel and dime crap. If I want something, I get it. Sometimes you just have to satisfy yourself. Krunch |
