Just announced. The existing building occupied by Sutton will be demolished very soon, the week of August 20. And will be home to a Robins Donuts and 2-4-1 Pizza. I'll post more shortly when the press conference is done. |

If I remember correctly, there was a Country Style donut shop there previously. Does anyone remember when they closed?
Plus Robin's donuts were around 7th & Victoria.
I wish there was a Tim Horton's around 18th and Maple Avenue. We have them on the north, south, west, and 1st street. Why not central? |

| | | It's going to be tight! | | |
According to the picture Adam provided, it looks to be having only sixteen parking spots plus the drive through window. Marino's can't be impressed that another pizza joint is on 10th street and the loss of the "extra" parking (I guess I have to park at the Liquor mart across the street) |

A bit more info... They're shooting for a November opening. It's being presented as a development for downtown with the property being a gateway to the core area. It really is an ideal location when you also take into account how many people are in the direct area for Superstore and how many drive by every day on the way to/from work. Sutton is relocating to a temp office at 1624 13th while their new office is built at 13th and Richmond. I posted quick phone pics of the plans. Will try to get my hands on a bit better version to post later. |

It does look like it'll be tight but really don't know what to expect re the drive thru. It looks like its setup so that any overflow would go down that lane on the East side of the property.... but will they see the kind of traffic that Tims sees? Tims would have to be the stronger brand and if memory serves me it was their entry into the market that co-incided with Robins closing up during their previous time in the city (please expand if your memory's better than mine!). Of course a lot can change in that many years, this also has the pizza, the location is very good, this will have the newness factor and we clearly have no shortage of coffee customers in Brandon......
Can anyone speak to what kind of traffic the Robins in Winnipeg see? Edited by Adam, 2012-08-15 12:28:38 |

It was 20 plus years ago it closed. I knew the owners and my wife worked for them. It was good donut shop. As far as tight??
Check out this donut shop parking rant!
I remember it well!

I heard the rumour a long time ago about Robins coming back, I'm happy! Find their baking far superior to others donuts, they also had good soups and subs! |

The one around my office(I think it's address would be the corner of Garry & York) is reasonably busy. Usually close to full during lunch, never much of a line otherwise and it has no DT. Has about 5 people on staff during the day. Not bad given the competition. Within 5 blocks would be 3 Tims and at least on Starbucks, street vendors, restaurants and the food court at CityPlace Regarding Marinos being upset about the Pizza. 241 pizza is beneath pizza hotline in terms of quality. 2 slices and a bottled drink are about 6 bucks I think. Deli sandwiches are decent tho. |

I don't think the Robin's is going to do amazing where it's at, but with a drive through and selling cheap pizza, it will get quite a bit of foot traffic. 241 won't really hurt Marino's sales as people who go to Marino's want GOOD pizza in the first place, while 241 will be catering mostly to those who want something quick and cheap, a la Little Caesars. |

The press release stated that marino's was given permission to use the southern most parking lot of city hall for overflow after five pm to help resolve parking issues in the area and support downtown business. Edited by casualobserver, 2012-08-15 13:22:55 |

| | | Awesome news | | |
Robins has far superior baked goods, wonderful selection and much fresher.
The overall atmosphere of the place is more homey and relaxed as well - even in the busiest ones.
It will be a pleasure to drop in for them every so often closer to home as opposed to grabbing a box in Winnipeg. |

Parking for Robins and for Marino's overflow. If there are only sixteen spots, one for sure is reserved for handycapped, take away two for the "poor-parkers" who can't stay in the lines, then throw in some regulars and staff, what is left? I keep thinking of the Tim Hortons on Vic and what a crappy layout that is. Just like the new Robins, one and a half entrances and a dead end parking lot, plus the congestion of the drive thru makes it tough to get in and out.

I work around there and there is no place to grab a coffee. I remember Robin's when it was on Victoria. They had great donuts and soup. |

Sorry, Adam, I don't think it's that great a spot. Country-Style didn't make a go of it there 12 years ago when they had both Superstore _and_ Safeway across the street - and that was _before_ Tim Horton's took hold in the local market. Not sure how it will be any better a spot this time round (and please, people, lay off the old "Cop Shop and Doughnut" stereotype - if there was any truth to that, Tim's would have built @ 9th and Richmond a decade ago!).... |

Loved Country Style and Robins, not a fan of Tim.
Hope they make a go of it. Both of them have coffee and donuts that are just as good, if not better than Timmy's are. |

I am very for having a coffee shop down town.
It'll do monumental business what with the police station right across the street. wakka wakka wakka.
No but seriously i've missed having a coffee shop in the east end since. CJ's (formally doughnuts and more) closed in 05. Tim Hortons in the hospital doesn't count. |

I don't think those 5-10 hard core chain smokers caused the closure. At most, for as long as they sat there, they probably only spent a couple of bucks each. |
