| | | Rhubarb | | |
This year my rhubarb failed to ripen properly. It basically stayed green and then it all of a sudden turned brown. As a result I don't have rhubarb to make pies and stuff. Today I went to Walmart, Sobeys, Superstore and Giant Tiger and no fresh or frozen rhubarb in any of those stores. Does anyone know where the heck to find rhubarb? |

You can purchase frozen rhubarb at Sobey's Cash & Carry - if they don't have it in stock, they will order in. However, you do have to buy it by the case. |

My rhubarb was green, then wanted to go to seed! So I had to cut it even though it was green, because once it goes to seed it gets all woody. So I have lots of green rhubarb in my freezer. Sometimes green doesn't necessarily mean too tart for use though. Try mixing it with strawberries to make jam, it wont seem so sour. Or sometimes I mix a bit of green rhubarb with red in a pie, because when eating it with sweet ice cream, it's a nice balance.
However besides using green rhubarb, I would try asking some of your neighbours if they have a rhubarb patch. There are a lot of people in the city who have rhubarb but don't know what to do with it, and it just sits there. |

| | | Cranbrook Gardens always has... | | |
At the Brandon Farmer's Market there is always fresh rhubarb at the Cranbrook Gardens table. Just go to the Market on Saturday morning in the Town Center parkade. We will be there from 9am thru 12 noon. Of course, first come first served.
I have lots of rhubarb yet, so if you need some, and can't make it to the market on Saturday, just let me know. |
