5 planters stolen this morning........................

My co-worker went home for lunch only to discover that somebody had stolen their 5 ceramic planters from the front of their house. This happened in the vicinity of McDiarmid and Rosser. They had to of been loaded into a vehicle as they are fairly heavy. If anyone sees someone with 2 tall blue strawberry planters with white impatients in them, 1 hex shaped brown planter with 2 shades of pink impatients, and 2 black kettle shaped planters with blush coloured impatients and cholius center please pm me.

this isnt the one on delta bay. as i saw that brand new bike, that kid kept leaving it out on the roadway, and it got ran over by one of the tenants. now its in a ton of pieces and left next to the fence. shouldnt have been just left out on the road, to the OP i do think they getting brave to steal right in broad daylight ... wow! i hope they have bad karma for the next year!!

It would be interesting to understand how they come up with the rate. Is it overall crime? Does that include ALL crime from stolen planters to murder?

Statistics are presented to be read very specifically. Stats can be so screwed with...unreliable.

police chief

I think those stats came from the police, not the mayor. Stats do not include lots of stuff that happens in our city, like my neighbour who got a tire slashed on his car, sitting in his garage or the window smashed on our side window. These incidents went unreported because there is squat the cops can do to try and find the idiot that commited the crime...

upreported crime

That's the problem with unreported crimes. They don't get logged and the crime stats don't reflect reality.

For this reason all crime should be reported, no matter how minor or whether you think anything will be done or not. Budgets and police personnel are all based on crime stats. If crimes aren't reported then crimes stats will appear low and well there's no need to hire more officers is there.

Police also can't be everywhere. If these minor crimes aren't reported they can't see a trend of where they're taking place and where they can possibly add extra patrols.

Reporting crime

If we don't report all crimes committed against ourselves or our property the police have much less of an idea what is happening around town. It's possible that trends could be more easily identified by the police, and patrols put into areas at times more likely to coincide with crime occurrences.

Reporting all crimes may not solve everyone of them, but it could give the police enough extra information to catch some of the bad guys before they do unto your friend / relative what they have already done unto you.

All it takes is a phone call and a bit of your time.

Didn't we just add six full-time positions to complete the administrative tasks that officers were previously having to do?

I would think that should put a great deal more police time on the streets and reduce the overtime budget to almost zero!
