What is the proper way to dispose of waste toner?

Staples
Staples has a program where they return the ink and toner cartridges to the suppliers for proper reconditioning and refilling. Sometimes they have a bonus free shopping bag or something to entice you to bring more in.

Waste toner from a photocopier or an empty printer cartridge?  
 
Christies takes in used cartridges, has them recycled and what ever proceeds are generated gets donated to local charities.

Waste toner
Seeing as waste toner has no hazardous ingredients, made up of paper lint and toner, it is alright to dump out the waste and clean out the container. Why do you ask?
