Shout-out for South End Service!

A huge shout-out to South End Service on 18th for showing a young North Dakota family the way things are done in Brandon!
On July 31st around 11:30 AM, I was traveling southbound on #10 when just a few kilometres south of Brandon I saw a van pulled over that had been heading north. The rear of the van was sagged down and it appeared they had a left rear blowout. They were loaded in the back and on the roof and looked like they were on the way to a vacation. I turned around and went back to see if I could be of assistance. The family was from North Dakota heading for Clear lake. Husband, wife and 4 young children. It ended up being far more severe than just a blown tire as they had assumed. They had lost all but one of the wheel nuts and wheel was jammed up in the fender. The van owner asked if there was someone close that could assist. I have been in Brandon just under 5 years and have dealt with South End Service, corner of 18th and Richmond, and have got to know Ken the owner, over the years and didn't hesitate to take this fellow to South End Service. Ken and his crew arranged to have the van towed in and repaired. The tire, wheel, hub, rotor and calipers were all destroyed. The crew at South End worked until 8:30 PM to get them safely on their way despite their normally closing at 5:00pm. The owner said the van had work done on it the previous week for a noise in the rear end back in North Dakota. Good chance that someone forgot to tighten the wheel nuts. Your family's safety is your responsibility. Always check your wheel nuts. Don't assume that just because work was done by a professional, that mistakes don't happen.
I have no vested interest in or affiliation with South End Service, they have just always treated me very fairly and the level of service they provided, and just covered their costs to help a family of stranded southern neighbours went above and beyond the normal call of duty. This company exemplifies "customer service".

I Second this!

I always use South End Service. Ken, Tom, and the crew are amazing. Always willing to go above and beyond to help their customers. When I'd take my car to other places, I'd always have something that needed fixing NOW. I find with South End, they tell you something is wearing down and try to estimate how long I have until it's got to be repaired. It lets me save up so I can get it fixed. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else.

Nice to hear

but perhaps they were just fleeing the collapse of civilization... and treading dangerously into the hotbed of socialism, healthcare, and progessive taxation to "walk on the wild side" for a bit! Maybe the weight of the "freedom" they were only carrying (along with the hand guns

They're awesome

We use South End and West End service for years (same owner, etc). They are fantastic and help us keep our aging/used cars on the road for reasonable prices, breaks down what should be fixed now vs. later, etc.

I highly recommend them! I'm completely not surprised that they would have worked late to help this family out.

Thank you to our staff!

We are extremely fortunate to be able to work with a great team of people at both shops. Without them, we couldn't provide the service that we do. So we'd like to pass along a big thank you to all of our staff for everything that they do!

thats awesome that ken and his crew helped the family but just an fyi, make sure you have your lug nuts torqued after about 100km if you have had the wheels off, might not have been a mistake on the part of the original service center

Thank you for pointing that out.
Glad everyone is safe and back on the road. But it's up to the owner to get the tires retorqued Can not stress this enough. Very good chances the original shop did their job correctly. Lug nuts very often do back off. Not the shops fault. This is why most shops get the customer to sign a torque tag so responsibility is solely on the owner of the vehicle.
To often it's the shops getting the blame.

dont forget the rest of the quote where it seems you are blaming the original shop The owner said the van had work done on it the previous week for a noise in the rear end back in North Dakota. Good chance that someone forgot to tighten the wheel nuts. Your family''s safety is your responsibility. Always check your wheel nuts. Don''t assume that just because work was done by a professional, that mistakes don''t happen.

plus not everyone knows you need to check AFTER 100km the way you worded it makes it seem like you should check the professional work for mistakes, which isnt bad too but not the same thing as I said imo
