there are always important things to think about. Did you even watch the video? What are you personally doing to help with these "other important things".
I don't recall the video mentioning anything about telling everyone else in the world how they need to live. They're trying to bring attention to the injustice that is happening in and around Uganda. What's wrong with that?

Research

I cannot stress enough that people need to research Invisible Children and the stop kony movement. The video does not tell us some very important information. But I totally agree that Joseph Kony Needs to be stopped.

What I don't get is that this has been happening for 26 years, In not Just Uganda but all over the world. And now this 30 minute video goes viral and everyone cares now. Where was the support 26 years ago? or even 3 weeks ago?

But PLEASE if you watched the video, take a few more minutes to research Invisible Children, just google it. they are leaving out very important info.

do much to help. I volunteer where i feel my abilities may help strengthen my family, community or country. I write letters to editors and government ministers in matters i feel are important or even form a group of like-minded persons to lobby government for changes. I also discuss issues with others who are willing to in order to educate as well as learn the different sides of stories.
As for the article etc, there is absolutely nothing we can do to change anything, he has been hunter for years and eventually will either be caught or die running. If caught he will be brought to the icc to face charges, yet he is only doing what all armies do in that are and have done for centuries. It doesn't make what he is doing right but it doesn't make it wrong simply because they have a different way of life to ours.

I was close friends

Miss said "he kills some children should I say? I guess I thought people could figure that out, or if you check out the video, the page or even google it it would probably say.
He kidnaps them, forces them to kill their families, forces them to take other kids and so on and so on..
is that more clear for you? "

with a guy who was rescued from Uganda. He lived in a small Ugandan village, and usually when the army was coming they would have notice and be able to hide, but this time the people in the village had no idea. The army took him and his older cousin and they were made watch wile they killed the rest of his family, borthers, sisters, mother, aunt and other younger cousins. All the captured children were tied in a line by rope. My friend was fortianate and his rope was loose and he managed to untie his and get away. He offered to untie his cousin as well but huis cousin refused becasue he was scared. My friend sad that he couldnt help his cousin ran and was chaised by men shooting at him. He even has a hole in his arm where he was hit with a bullet. - Lucky for him, a few weeks before a family from Canada whos son has started a organizartion to build wells in Africa were there, their youngest son was my friends pen pall, and they had finally met. On the night that my friends village was attacked, he ran to the capital city and was bale to find help, and was able to get in contact with his pen palls family, and they were able to adopt him and he was finally brought to Canada.

This happens all the time. You could be sitting next to someone on the bus who was rescued from child war and you would never know it.

Check out http://www.ryanswell.ca/ to read more about my friend (Jimmy's) storey and find out about the well organizartion.

I belive this guy needs to be stopped. If only the USA and other countries would put more effort into more serious problems like these in third world countries instead of the money they have wasteed over the years on war over nothing.

Agree wholeheartedly with theis. "

I agree as well. Yes he's evil, yes he should be stopped. But he's been around awhile and he is similar to Osama and Hussein, this campaign is just making him famous, it sounds like a political campaign instead of a awareness campagain in my opinion.

Kony

I don't think it's possible to over exaggerate the safety of children. as for charitable donations, if your not comfortable with it then save your money for a tuti fruti. In my opinion we the people can raise enough awareness for this cause and many others to demand the government to take a tiny fraction of our yearly taxes and donate it towards the safety and welfare of families and schools in third world countries. It's our money we do have a say. The main message is, if we all stand together we can make a difference. Like they said, we can change the shape of our world and every humans standard of living. I'm so tired of hearing how hard we have it here in Canada.
Let us turn things upside down

Does No One Read the Thread Before Posting?

From reading this thread, and the links in the posts, I have made the following observations:

1. Kony 2012 seems to be the "cause of the day".
2. Much of the background on the "Invisible Children" organization seems a little sketchy.
3. Kony and the LRA are well past their prime (not very active, he may not even be in Uganda anymore).
4. The cure may be just as bad as the disease (Kony).

Sure is interesting/scary to see how fast people can be manipulated using social media and a slick presentation. Noticed today everyone's favorite MP (Justin Trudeau) was front and center on Global talking about this great cause. Also saw some references to the Occupy movement.

Future of politics? Frightening...

The point is

to get his name out there and get people talking about him. Yes he has been around for 26 years and now people are talking about it but that is the day and age we are in. 26 years ago we didn't have the internet, to get his name out there and open peoples eyes there would have had to be thousands of letters wrote and mailed out. Yes I agree that we are a little late for helping all those people who lost their lives or their families. But now we can get something done about it. That the whole point of the video and the events is to get the goverment to do something about it. If it was happening in our country it wouldn't be a question weather you supported or not you just would!

Good video. But the reality is this has been going on for decades in Africa with different militias and renegades. I'm actually upset by the amount of people on facebook and north America oblivious to this information. Sometimes I do believe as another poster said that people are sheltered in a bubble and do not observe what is happening in the world.

if you watch the video you'll realize it's not about AIDS at all, it's raising awareness of Joseph Kony and his position as the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda (& neighbouring countries)and the abduction of children to be used as child soldiers. He is the world's #1 war criminal and the international courts are prepared to arrest him if they could only find him. However, armys in Uganda need technology that they don't have in order to track Kony through the jungle. That's where we come in. If we can raise awareness of this, the government will continue to send military advisors and the technology over there, if public interest wanes, then the troops will be pulled.

The goal is to arrest Kony in 2012, while the resources are there.

I don't think the issue should be why is it being supported now. I would think it's better late then never. Facebook can be an amazing resource for bringing awareness to something. Just overnight this video seemed to go viral.

It is a great video to watch. The whole purpose is to raise awareness and it's doing just that. Even by people talking on this thread and posts by people on Facebook criticizing it.

Keep in mind

That if you give money to these "Invisible Children" people, there is a healthy likelihood that it will end up in the hands of the Ugandan Government

Its not exactly like they have taken a neutral, or pro-civilian stance in this

Seems like a campaign to build support among the western public for the military intervention already-in-progress in Uganda to me

awareness

I understand that this may not be the most perfect group to donate to and you should research organizations before you do donate but what I get from this campaign is that they are really just trying to raise awareness so that people put pressure on their governments to do something about this and get this guy.
The "action kits" are $30 and have a t shirt, bracelet, book, stickers and posters.. I think for $30 they are not really making a profit.. my point being that I don't think people need to worry about this group ripping people off or anything.
It says the majority of their money went to film making last year.. and that is what this whole thing is all about..
Anyway I agree look into what you support but I still think this movement is a good thing.
And those asking why do people care now? A film was made very well and geared toward youth and people on social media all around the world.. that spoke to them and they understand and felt compelled to do something.
That is a good thing.

Get rid of Kony and someone else will step into his place. It's another endless battle that does nothing but bleed our tax dollars away from things we should be spending them on at home.

The kind of crap that Kony is pulling in Uganda is happening in Canada as well. They are called gangs, such as the Indian Posse and others. Why is nobody here rabid about solving that problem?

The amount of energy and resources that some want to put into Kony would make a world of difference to some of the problems inside our own border if only we weren't so ignorant to them.

He wasnt saying that this is about AIDS all he was saying is that there has been a ton of awareness about AIDS and that has not stopped AIDS. This will be the same way is what he is saying you can raise all the awareness in the world but the likely hood of solving the problem completely is slim to none. Like other people have said there is a good chance that the government will end up with all money donated thus making this kind of a too little to late thing.

"Is it okay that people are induced to funnel money via manipulative marketing and media? I’m pretty sure the answer is a resounding “no.”

Apparently a lot of the statistics and information given in the Kony 2012 video are at least 6 years old, and not reflective anymore of the situation in Uganda. By all means, we should be helping people effected by this, but the situation seems to be a lot different than what was presented, and therefore will need a different approach/kinds of help.
IC seems to be more about manipulating people to bring in funds than to be truly concerned about the state of child soldiers in Uganda.
