The new space for Whitey’s Fitness Body Shop in Neepawa is taking shape. Earlier this week, the business completed its move to the basement at the former Co-op building, on Mountain Avenue. Owner and operator Sherrie Hockin said the new location provides them with much more space.

“This is probably the perfect spot for the gym. It’s bigger.  Upstairs we had about 2800 square feet of total space. Down here, we have 3800 square feet for our workout area alone.” said Hockin. “As well, we now have a nice little lounge area at the entrance. Brand new bathrooms, change areas and showers, that’ll get used now.”

The massive renovation was spearheaded by the owner of the building, Zen Development and included a complete overhaul of the space.

“Everything was redone from top to bottom. The lighting, and wiring. All of the walls, stucco, paint. There are brand new mats on the floor. It basically started from scratch.” Hockin noted.

“It’s definitely going to allow us to expand our class sizes. Upstairs we were limited on the indoor classes and how many people we could take. Ten of twelve people per class would be pretty crammed but we can now easily fit fourteen to sixteen people in a class and still have room to move.”…“Starting next week, we’ll be offering yoga, zumba and X-Fit classes. We’ll be offering a boot camp and just pure strength training classes, which include barbells, dumbbells, and kettle bells. A whole variety.”

Hockin added that the initial response from the gym’s members has been very positive.

“Some people were a little worried. Anybody who saw [the basement area] before the renovations may have had a few questions about how it was going to work, but Zen Development basically made it look like a brand new space.” said Hockin.

“It’s going to be pretty awesome and that’s the vibe we’ve received so far from the people who have stepped in here. It’s done. It’s spacious and it looks good. It’s new and modern and it should bring some new people in while keeping our existing members around and happy.”
