Curling fans in Brandon area have been waiting for more than a decade to welcome back the biggest events in the sport, and now they have a chance to be directly involved in helping make the 2016 Home Hardware Canada Cup a success. Volunteer applications are now being accepted, giving you the opportunity to make your contributions in all aspects of putting on the bonspiel.
Volunteer contributions, both behind and in front of the scenes, are indispensable, and their efforts are often as profound as the event itself. Facilities will need volunteers in a variety of positions that start before the event and carry through to teardown. Opportunities vary from setting up and taking down equipment to facilitating interview requests for the media. Canada’s best curlers, VIPs and fans will be gathering at Westman Communications Group Place, and volunteers will be required to work behind the scenes at various checkpoints.
Hosting is looking for friendly faces to provide information regarding tickets and daily activities. Some volunteers will be tasked with transporting teams to and from their destinations around Brandon during the Nov. 30-Dec. 4 event, while others will help keep a variety of lounges stocked with refreshments and food.
The special events committee will make the off-ice activities, such as autograph sessions, Up Close and Personal interviews, and the Junior Stars program a success. They’ll also help plan and prepare the ceremonies and provide retail assistance for souvenirs.
After the last rock is thrown each night, attention shifts to the Patch, Curling Canada’s post-game party zone. The bands will be electrifying, the dance floor packed and volunteers make it all possible by bartending, busing, selling tokens and enjoying the camaraderie of The Patch.
What are the benefits of volunteering? Here’s a look at what you get:
• Official volunteer clothing
• Limited-edition volunteer pin (not available to the general public)
• Invitation to the volunteer appreciation party
• Access to the famous Patch with entertainment
• Access to seating in the venue when not on shift*
• Volunteer handbook
* based on seat availability
