On Friday, Nov. 4, the Neepawa Farmers travelled to Gladstone to face off against the Lakers in Tiger Hills Hockey League action. Four minutes after the puck dropped, the Lakers’ Jesse Hall drove home the first goal of the game, assisted by Lyndon Saper and Regan Stire. Just 42 seconds after the first goal, the Lakers netted another one, courtesy of Justin Slobozian, assisted by Ed Friesen and Hall. The next goal would come on a power play opportunity for the Lakers, as Trey Evenson scored with the help of Slovozian and Eric Beaudin. Before the period was finished, the Lakers would put one more puck into the back of the Farmers’ net, thanks to a shot by Jordan Geddes, with the assistance of Beaudin and Jesse Toth. By the end of the first period, the Lakers were up 4-0.

Still carrying the momentum from the first period, the Lakers scored a goal just 31 seconds into the second period, bringing the score to 5-0 and giving Hall his second goal of the night. As with the first period, the Lakers continued to dominate, scoring three more times: at 4:41 with an effort from Corby Henderson, at 9:52 with Beaudin claiming the goal and at 15:48 with a shot by Jesse Toth.

With the scoreboard reading 8-0 and only 11 seconds left in the second period, a power play opportunity gave the Farmers their first goal of the night. Lance Nugent took the goal, with assistance from Garett and Clarke Rempel. Despite the goal, the Farmers were unable to stop the Lakers’ momentum.

Coming into the third period with a score of 8-1 for the Lakers, there was little hope that the Farmers would find a win, but they never gave up trying. The Lakers would score less than a minute into the period and proceed to control the puck up until the last half of the period. During this time, they would score twice more, once at 4:45 and again at 6:03.

With just over five minutes left in regulation play and a score of 11-1, it was clear Neepawa was not going to be coming out on top. But at 14:43, Shane Levandosky, with the help of Hayden Kolesar and Rodney White, put the puck into the back of the Lakers’ net, proving that Neepawa would not go quietly into the night.

After the goal by Levandosky, the score would remain static, giving the Lakers an 11-2 victory.

The Farmers’ next game will be on Friday, Nov. 11, when they face off against Carberry on home ice.
