A two-day summit discussing a Food Policy for Canada wrapped up Friday in Ottawa.

A Food Policy for Canada will be the first-of-its-kind for the Government of Canada and will cover the entire food system, from farm-to-fork.

“This Summit is a key milestone in developing A Food Policy for Canada," said Federal Ag Minister Lawrence MacAulay. "It provides a valuable opportunity to hear and reflect on a variety of experiences, perspectives, and innovative ideas related to food from a diverse cross-section of Canadians. Participants came ready to roll-up their sleeves and get to work, and their views are extremely valuable as we build A Food Policy for Canada.”

Participants at the summit included representatives from community organizations, academics, indigenous groups, industry, stakeholders, and officials from all orders of government.

Topics discussed included increasing access to affordable food, improving health and food safety, conserving soil, water, and air, and growing more high-quality food.

Online consultations on the Food Policy remain open until July 27, 2017.
