Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings continue to roll as they earned their fifth straight victory on Saturday night.
The Wheat Kings scored quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period on goals from Connor Gutenberg, Ty Lewis, and Evan Weinger.
Gutenberg’s goal came on the powerplay while Weinger found the back of the net for the first time as a Wheat King.
In the 2nd, Brandonite Jordy Stallard potted a pair of powerplay goals just 5:00 apart to give the Raiders some life. Prince Albert would finish the night 2/3 on the man advantage while Brandon went a perfect 2/2.
With 5:00 left in the 2nd, Stelio Mattheos helped the Wheat Kings regain the two-goal lead with his 8th powerplay goal of the season.
Both teams would exchange third-period goals, with Brandon getting one from Gunnar Wegleitner. That goal would extend the Vancouver native’s goal-scoring streak to five games.
Logan Thompson kicked aside 25 shots for the victory, while Meager took the loss for the Raiders after making 27 saves.
These two teams will do it all again Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (Pre-game show at 3:30 on 91.5 FM and 880 AM).
