Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – For the 2nd time in a week, the Brandon Wheat Kings needed overtime to knock off the Central Division leading Medicine Hat Tigers 4-3.
Less than one week after Stelio Mattheos capped off a two goal comeback with an OT winner at the Canalta Centre in Medicine Hat, it was Tanner Kaspick who earned the hero honours for the Wheat Kings on Friday night.
After opening up a three goal lead before the media timeout of the 1st period, the Wheat Kings watched their lead slowly evaporate in the remaining fifty minutes.
After failing to convert on any of their three powerplays in regulation time, Brandon would only need one chance in the extra frame to find the back of the net.
Tanner Kaspick’s powerplay goal with 1:13 left in overtime lifted the Wheat Kings to their 7th straight victory, their longest win streak of the season.
Linden McCorrister, Evan Weinger & Stelio Mattheos rounded out the scoring for Brandon, who got three assists from Kale Clague in the victory.
Both goaltenders were on their game. Logan Thompson stopped 39 shots for his 17th win of the season while Jordan Hollett came on in relief after the 2nd Wheat Kings goal and made 38 saves.
Tyler Presiuzo, and James Hamblin (x2) scored for the Tigers who finished 2/6 on the powerplay.
Brandon will look to make it eight straight on Saturday night as they welcome the Kelowna Rockets. (7:30 p.m. on QCountry Radio)
