While many municipalities continues to discuss the need for the reinstatement of the province's Municipal Road and Bridge program, the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) is also planning to continue its lobbying efforts. Masi notes the program's benefits.

"It's very similar to the gas tax," says executive director Joe Masi. "Everybody got an allocation. It was application based, but there was always enough money that everybody managed to get some. So now the province has transitioned that money, and is indicating they want to use that as part of the new federal infrastructure program, and put it into there."

He says the former program's a good one, noting it was simple. Funds were cost-shared at a ratio of 50/50. Masi notes he hopes it gets reinstated at the next budget. He explains it's the single most important program they're lobbying on at this moment. Masi adds many municipalities are sponsoring resolutions at their upcoming convention asking for it to be restored. He notes he assumes it will pass convention, and then the province will know it's a policy for the AMM.
