Thursday, October 20, 2011 Bits and PIeces Hello Everyone,
When you really like someone, tell them. Sometimes you only get
one chance.
Council Meeting, Monday, October 17/11, 7:30 pm with selected agenda
items & correspondence since September 26/11. Complete details on the

A) Delegations:
Healthy Living Brandon presentation was received from Vanessa Hamilton &
Kris Desjarlais. Position Statement: Eat Smart Meat Smart
Chief Keith Atkinson provided Crime Statistics for 2010. Two types of
measurements; Uniform Crime Reporting Survey- Actual reported incidents
of crime & Crime Severity Index-Measurers the seriousness of reported
crimes.
B) Committee Reports:
Brandon Municipal Heritage advised that the appeal of the heritage site
designation for 924 Rosser Avenue, known as The LaPlont Block was
denied.
C) Enquiries:
Cornwallis & Balmoral Bay Walkway; Fabric Tent Garages Policy; Taxation
Rules of Housing; McDonald Avenue Construction; Election Signs; Fall
Clean-up; Dike Repair & Budget Process.
D) Announcements:
Waste reduction School Challenge & Coffee With The Mayor- October
31/11-Library.
E) General Business:
Brandon Transit Fare Strategy revealed that users would embrace the
concept of lowering base cash fares & eliminating the free transfer.
Administration will submit the fare structure in 2012.
Council agreed not to demolish the East End Water Tower.
Snow Route parking bans for 9th/10th, Princess to Pacific Avenue was
discussed & to be implemented on the west side of 10th. & east side of
9th.
Ben Wiebe Construction was chosen for the Water Treatment Facility
Clearwell 1 Rehabilitation at a cost of $356,659.00, exclusive of GST.
City of Brandon enter into the Memorandum of Collaboration with the
Province of Manitoba to jointly participate in a Brandon Regeneration
Strategy.
F) Giving Notice:
Council will deliberate the Brandon Area Planning Commercial Property
(Fleming School) property decision on October 31/11.
G) Did You Know:
Canada's Entrepreneurial Cities News Release was released this
date. Overall results had Grande Prairie with top marks of 74. Brandon
scored 53.
