Occupation
Bon vivant

Favorite Movies
I'm not that big into the big Hollywood blockbusters. I prefer indie and Canadian films.

Favorite Music
I try to listen to as much local and indie music as I can on university radio stations. Nathan, Alana Levandoski are some that I really like.

Favorite TV Shows
I don't watch a lot of it. A lot of news / current events. I am a sucker for Law and Order, Mercer Report and Coronation Street !

Favorite Books
Local history and urban stuff for non-fiction. For fiction, British crime novels are my fiction genre of choice by far ! I love Ian Rankin's crime novels.

Portage and Main turns 150 !

Last week I noted on my West End Dumpling blog that Portage and Main turns 150 this weekend and asked online-types to post birthday greetings. Like most other significant anniversaries, I didn't want this one to pass without any interest or notice.

Gordon Sinclair Jr. of the Winnipeg Free Press did noticed it and wrote a column asking Shouldn't we get the party started ? Creswin Properties, owner of 201 Portage Avenue (above), stepped up with an impromptu party, serving cake and music over the lunch hour !

The online greetings have been rolling in as well.

All in all, it was a much better birthday gift than I had planned for !

Albert Cohen: The Man Behind SAAN

It was sad news that Albert Cohen passed away on Monday. Most will remember him for the now defunct SAAN chain of stores but there was much more to the man. I have come across his name dozens of times while researching stories for my blogs.

Here is a look back
