Community Garden Assistant
Samaritan House Ministries is currently seeking a Community Garden Assistant for a summer term.
The Community Garden Assistant will work in the community gardens to plant and care for various fruit and vegetable crops, while maintaining the tidiness of the garden site. This is a full-time 2 month summer term position of 35 hours per week, Monday ? Friday.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate volunteers and supplies for community garden projects
- Plant vegetable gardens
- Maintain gardens, include weeding and watering
- Maintain garden site including mowing, trimming, and composting
- Connect and engage with families to provide gardening education
- Harvest gardens and orchard as required
- Pick, prepare, and preserve fruit harvests
- Assist with the hamper program during inclement weather
Qualifications:
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred; International students are not eligible
- Reliable and punctual
- Be able to work outdoors in a garden setting
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of gardening and horticultural practices will be considered an asset
