Nearly a month after it was learned that the municipal portion of 2019 Brandon property tax bills would see an increase below inflation, Brandon School Division is now into the thick of deciding its own mill rate for 2019-20 and early signs point toward the likelihood of a slight decrease.
Two scenarios shared at tonight’s budget presentation had the mill rate potentially decreasing at 0.31% or perhaps as much as 0.77%, numbers that according to Trustee Kevan Sumner would be obtained without reduction to services or teacher ratios:
The final numbers will become more clear at the board’s budget deliberations, scheduled to take place on Monday. That will be followed by March 4th’s public budget consultation, with final budget approval scheduled for one week later on the 11th.

Earlier this month it was learned that the municipal side of tax bills would increase 1.17%.
