One of the benefits of running this site for 14+ years is you get a pretty solid idea for seasonal trends. As much as real estate has a reputation of unticking in the spring, when it comes to browsing home ads the interest starts much sooner than that in the dead of winter. While businesses post jobs in great quantity year-round thereâs generally a slight summer pullback in hiring in the neighbourhood of 10-15%. And go figure that people prefer ATVs to snowmobiles when the grass is green :)
Perhaps most significantly you can all but set your watch to a seasonal uptick in folks listing ads in the classifieds as temps start to warm and the snow recedes in the spring and this yearâs been no exception. This year the first spike came on Sunday when 624 new ads were confirmed. Sunday generally speaking is the day of the week that sees the most ad listings. For comparisonâs sake Sundays throughout February and earlier in March would average in the mid-400s.
Looking a little deeper, the two categories that saw the most ads posted on this past Sunday were Baby & Child Items (66 ads) and Home & Garden (also 66 ads) followed by Furniture (44) and Tools (42).
Based on the history one could expect a similar trend into May before settling at a level throughout summer and early fall that exceeds what youâd see during the Winter months.
Interestingly last year didnât see the same type of seasonal increase until mid-April, which would seem to correlate with how slow spring was to fully start last year in comparison to the melting weâve already seen in 2019. Above all else its great to see how many folks have successfully made the leap to the new website system after almost four months online.
As always, folks looking to leverage eBrandon in their spring cleaning in the coming weeks can post an ad from the link on the classifieds page or the direct link of https://ebrandon.ca/createadcategory.aspx
