BPS: E Fotheringham operation was part of larger Project 'Burden'

Posted by Adam in Local News, 4/5/2019

Last month, Police response as part of an operation on E Fotheringham Drive gained a lot of attention when the street was closed, the public advised to stay away and a search warrant was conducted. New information in a Special Media Release from Police today brings more clarity to the nature of that operation and the fact that it was part of a larger Project in response to a growing public safety issue.

According to the release, beginning in late 2018 Brandon Police led an operation known as Project “Burden” in which they along with Blue Hills RCMP and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team have proactively targeted the theft and unauthorized possession of firearms in our area.

Project “Burden” is said to have recently culminated with an arrest in a traffic stop in Brandon on March 19, then the reported action on E Fotheringham Drive in the early morning hours of March 20 and then later that afternoon the search of a property in the RM of Oakland-Wawanesa. All-told 13 firearms were recovered, many of which are said by Police to have been connected to thefts in Souris and the RM of Oakland-Wawanesa.

In the release at the link below Police outline in more details charges that came about as well as firearms that were recovered in Project “Burden” which is now considered to have concluded:
