The Brandon Police Service have responded to a school lockdown at Earl Oxford School this morning according to a message shared on the Brandon Police Service Twitter account. According to the message, the situation is contained and students and staff are safe.
Late Tuesday morning the Police issued a special media release to update with additional details. In the release it was said that a woman unknown to staff entered the building and indicated she was being chased by someone with a weapon. She was contained to an office, lockdown was initiated and Police called. It was later learned that the woman was suffering from mental health issues and it is not believed that she was being chased. Q Country news had reported that as many as five Police cars entered the school's parking lot on the South side with officers then seen running into the building.
A message on the eBrandon discussion forums had earlier indicated a significant Police presence at the school including what was said to be eight Police vehicles.
