One of the more unique and enlightening events on the Westman calendar is less than two weeks away.
Brockie Donovan’s Gossip in the Graveyard will see a host of personalities from Brandon’s past come to life at the Brandon Cemetery via portrayal by the folks from Assiniboine Theatre Company.
Among those making “appearances” who have helped shape the city into what we see today include:
- Clifford Sifton, local MLA and MP in the late 1800s and early 1900s
- Alexander Fleming, Brandon’s first Medical Doctor and one time president of the Brandon School Board
- Lucy Beaubier, teacher and later volunteer nurse during the Spanish Flu epidemic
- Joe Hall, former Montreal Canadien and Hockey Hall of Fame member
- John Fredrick Grandville
- Mrs. Clara Kirchhoffer
- Sarah Darrach, namesake for Darrach Bay
- Mrs. Grapko, mother of Andrew Grapko
This will be the 13th year for Gossip in the Graveyard, which to-date has raised over $25,000 for local charities. The characters in this year’s interactive walking tour represent a completely new lineup from last year’s event and only two have been portrayed in years prior to that.
The two hour tours will take place on Saturday June 8 starting at 7 and 7:15pm, then Sunday June 9 at 3 and 3:15pm. Tickets cost $15 with 100% of proceeds going toward Helping Hands. They can be purchased by calling Kelly at 204-724-2682.
