The handiest online city tool you ever did see just got a big update

Posted by Adam in Real Estate, 6/5/2019

Arguably the single most valuable application that puts City of Brandon data in residents’ fingertips is its property tax and assessment tool. Whether one is looking to learn more about their own property, a home they might be considering buying or maybe even comparing neighbours’ tax data it’s been a great option to have at your fingertips as a resident or property owner in the city.

Until today there’s only been one problem- with local users moving more and more towards accessing data on mobile devices (my info places that number close to 60%), the city’s own online tax search and browse tool didn’t work properly on mobile devices.

That changed today with an update that’s been pushed out that modernizes the online application in a way that it adapts to all screen sizes including mobile and by my testing also appears to load quite a bit faster.

While most of the updates are to the interface that you use to access the data, one major add is the ability to now see a yearly archive of a property’s tax history going back all the way to 2011. I understand that another change to functionality is that a property’s data will now show any in-year changes to tax or assessment data that might apply to it, whereas previously the info online was only updated annually.

The link to the tax and assessment tool can be found through the city website, or the direct link of https://gisapp.brandon.ca/webmaps/taxassessment/
