The newest in Brandonâs buildout of splash pad sites has opened up this summer at Valleyview Community Centre and if the smiles and squeals are any measure the early returns are great.
While it may lack the scale and visual âwowâ factor of the always popular Rideau Park pad, Valleyviewâs new kiddo summer water fun spot surprisingly has just enough unique features to engage and cool down young neighbourhood kiddos. The pic attached to this post was taken earlier when the park was dry. When we popped by with our young guy in the afternoon we found that the filling/tippable bucket packs a surprising punch, that the small unique river/waterfall carved into concrete was quite engaging and that there were just enough other ways for water to spray and flow to make for a fun summer hour outside on a warm day.
The free-for-use pads are operated by the Y, who has staff on site to oversee. This one is Brandonâs fifth, with all keeping hours of 11am - 8pm until July 31 and then 11am - 7pm until September 1. The exception as of the time of this posting is Kin Park, which is currently closed for maintenance.
Valleyview Community Centre was also on the receiving end of a new rink and four season comfort building this past winter, all complimented by an updated school playground on-site in recent years. Kudos to all for their efforts on modernizing the area for the neighbourhood and maybe even a few of us dropping in to make use that aren't yet quite so lucky as to have these kinds of amenities in ours!
