When the MILSET Expo-Sciences International 2019 officially gets underway on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi a Brandon student will have the honour of being amongst the 45 budding scientists comprising Team Canada to showcase their projects on the world stage.
Vincent Massey Grade 11 student Emily Robb has made the 12 1/2 hour flight from Toronto to the United Arab Emirates capital alongside the Canadian delegation and is to showcase her project “Grow Big or Grow Home - The Roots to Hydroponic Success” over three days beginning tomorrow.
The event features over 2000 participants from over 50 countries displaying projects in a total of 13 categories within Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Rather than competition it places focus on communication, cooperation, networking, and sociocultural interchange. Emily’s project is in the Environmental Analysis and Environmental Management category.

Emily’s same Grow Big or Grow Home project resulted in a handful of honours at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in May including a Gold medal in the Intermediate category. Based on that success she was able to apply and was accepted to be part of team Canada for this week’s event.
The MILSET Expo-Sciences International 2019 takes place until Saturday when Emily is due to make the long trek home to Manitoba. More on the event can be learned at https://www.esi2019.ae
